Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

Actual origin of the mysterious blue cloverleaf badges...

Alfa planned a special edition of the 145 Cloverleaf; it was to be painted in a unique metallic blue colour with blue leather interior and be fitted with these blue cloverleaf badges. However during testing problems were found with the paint adherence and the plan was dropped. The batch of badges that had already been made (approximately 500) were simply applied to a particular batch of regular production cars.

Alfa are planning to once again use the cloverleaf tag on future models, starting with the Quadrifoglio version of the GT. For the British market these models will have a colour coded cloverleaf badge; either green for petrol engined or black for diesel, the latter to remind you of your terrible mistake in engine choice.

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

Not being funny but cloverleaves aren't chavvy. I'm not a fan of debadged cars, but its a matter of taste. I have a small triangle badge with a cloverleaf on my alfa. Have a look at the grand prix alfas, they all had a green cloverleaf.

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

Just my 2p.

My first Alfa was a blue 145 Cloverleaf and the cloverleafs were definitely blue from the off.

It was a parallel import from Europe

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

I am glad to see this thread has gone of for so long and that green seems to be the main colour of choice.

Only a few issues thought;
1) I am not a sticking, penniless, worthless, scummy chav!
2) I think 'de-badging' is more chav then adding badges
3) Just because Bella was not 'born' with cloverleaf’s doesn't mean she can't have some. She came from the same racing heritage that the symbol stands for, same as all Alfa's.
4) I still think red...

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

errrm adding badges that shouldn't be on your car is weird if you ask me - it wasn't just any old Alfa that got them in the first place, hence why yours didn't! So what's stopping you from putting a V6 GTA badge on her then? That's the same sort of thing!

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

Not really, she doesn't have a V6 engine and is not a GTA, but, she does come from a long line of cars with roots in racing hense the cloverleafs.

All Alfa's should have them! Because without the racing Alfa's wouldn't exist now!

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

but the clovers designated a special alfa not just any old one! Thats why you didnt have one as standard? Just like you didnt get a V6 badge because its not a V6 - get it yet?

Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

Cloverleaf, or Quadrifoglio, badges denote high-end in comfort and engine size variants of Alfa Romeo cars, but previously denoted Alfa Romeo racing cars in the pre-Second-World-War era. The image first appeared in 1923 when Ugo Sivocci presented one prior to the start of the 14th Targa Florio as a good luck token to the team. This became the symbol of competition Alfas, denoting higher performance. Some modern Alfas wear a cloverleaf badge which is typically a green four leaf clover on a white background (Quadrifoglio Verde), but variants of blue on white have been recently observed as well.
The Alfettas of the early 1980s had models available sold as the "Silver Leaf" and "Gold Leaf" (Quadrifoglio Oro). These models were the top of the range. Badging was the Alfa Cloverleaf in either gold or silver to denote the specification level. The Gold Leaf model was also sold as the "159i" in some markets, the name in homage to the original 159. Re: Is there any significance in a Red Clover Leaf?

it was originally their symbol of good luck for their most successful race cars and then they suck it on a few top spec road cars - would you say your car falls into those categories?

So your particular car didn't come from a manufacturer with racing roots, strong heritage and design flair!?

I am not making her out to be a V6 GTA 156, I am adding a badge to show the racing heritage that spawned her and the company that made her. She is still a 1.9JTD 156, but she just has an added cloverleaf…
