Rubbish tyres.

Anyone ever heard of Wan-Li tyres??? they are awfull.

I refuse to believe the 147 with its reputation for excellent handling has this little grip as standard. Driving in the rain causes the VDC light to flash on every corner and the other day on the way home from work i actually managed to get a four wheel drift... in a 147!!!!

So needless to say, the brand new tyres will be coming off as soon as i can get some new wheels.

Even new tarmac causes the VDC to cut in!

I am thinking of getting michelins next, do they perform well on a 147?

Wanli's are crap. My dad had them on the back of his Beemer 540. Not the most suitable application for any crap tyre

Apart from the grip being apalling they both delaminated before they were half worn.

The best thing to do with them is the old speed camera and petrol trick.

Michelins will be a much better replacement, although you will find that most tyres will feel a lot better than the Wanli's.

OMG, i new they where bad but i never realised they where that bad!!

on my way home from work the other day, pouring with rain, came round a downhill sharp lefthander at 30mph, normal corner speed. (145 used to do it at 35, any faster is too dangerous), front end pushes wide, vdc light flashes, front end pulls in and back end swings out, hold the slide untill the end of the corner, perfect recovery. Felt like a true hero, then changed my trousers.

Yep, also known as 'Chinese ditch finders'. They're the cheapest of the cheap.

It all depends which Michelins you get, obviously some are better than others.

The day we got my wife's Multipla it was a little damp and I couldn't understand why the ABS kicked in on the approach to almost every roundabout. On inspection I found that someone had just fitted a brand new pair of cheap far-Eastern tyres on the front (I'm not sure, but think they were Wanlis). We 'switched to Michelin' as the ad used to implore us and it's much, much better. I've still got the cheapies in my garage and I've always rather wondered if it would be worth putting them on the back for a laugh :-)

If you have a death wish though it may be the ideal tyre for you.

If they are chinese and have ying, yang, ting, tong,jing, jang in their name don't buy them unless you know someone who can recommend them as usable( none are good). Easy rule to follow, works for me

Nankangs are Chinese/Taiwanese, I have used them and they were pretty good TBH. So not all tyres from China are crap, just most of them.

Linglong are also made by wanli, but they are wanli's budget brand. (If thats possible)

Yep, I've used loads of Nankang and they are ok, also I've got Westlake on the 146 I use for coming to work. They're Chinese as well and seem fine.
A guy who works with us had some Jingtong tyres put on his wifes car, I don't think he loves her any more.

I have Michellin on the front and Firestone on the rear and have to say they stick like glue. You can really chuck it into corners without fear of it giving way.

I know how you feel ransoman, I've had some awful tyres stuck on by the stealer before I bought the car and it does make things rather hairy in the wet. Its like driving an entirely different beast in the dry though

I have used Good Years which I found were good - especially on the front, but recently have stuck to Pirelli 6000s - found them very reliable and hardwearing. I do about 24k miles a year in my 147.

I had some budget tyres on the front of an Escort Mk 3 estate car I bought from a Peugeot dealer once. I hadn't realized it was possible to make the steering that heavy and vague quite so easily.

I sold the car before they wore out. They were truly awful.

Believe it or not there were cheap nasty tyres on the 164 24valve I rescued. Cheap nasty tyres + 210bhp...what does that tell you about the previous owner.

NEVER buy budget tyres, and if a dealer tries to sell you a car with them on then insist they come off or walk away, or compromise on the cost of something decent.

So do we think that a jingtong and a wanli on the front then a kumho and a ling long on the back might upset the handling on a GTV then

I have Marshalls on the front of mine .Whats the verdict on 'em ?

Goodyear F1 GSD3's if you can strech the budget.

or

Avon CR 332 give good grip wet or dry for about half the price.

Had some on a Mk 2 Escort about 20 years ago and they were OK.
