Love the "hidden battery reserve" function.

Just watching channel 911 on Sky, if you call the girls on your mobile and ask them to take their tops off, they do. Marvellous Really. Super Headlights.

Do you reckon that this might work on an Alfa with a flat battery ? ie. Tune to Radio 1 on the car radio and the mighty reserve power will be released ?

At least the gullible keep us amused !

Or point the remote at the TV and try to
change channels/volume.

If it doesn't then the battery is dead.

Re: Do tricks like this work?

Why bother ? I'm sure everyone has spare batteries at home and it takes less than a minute to change them.

You get fair warning of batteries going down as the range decreases- good battery, point almost anywhere you like - poor batteries you have to be more accurate.

Best tip, that I always live by....

Carry a spare battery in your wallet/purse. 99% of the time you have that when you are out in the car!

More often than not, you can take off the battery cover and spin the batteries round a couple of times with your thumb, and it'll get going again for another few weeks, then you can do it again, and again, until they genuinely, really are dead

After 12 year, and it must be > 20 IR remotes
I've never had one fail.

Still got loads of them. They outlast
what they control!

Must take them up the dump some day.

There 3 common problem with IR remotes -
Dry joint on the LEDS.
Broken leg on XTAL
Failure of Electrolytic capacitor which causes poor performance and rapid battery exhaustion.

All are easy to fix electronically but getting the darn thing apart without marking the case is another story !

Newer models are much better though, another " nice little earner " out of the window !

Couldn't you take a picture of the infra-red signal on your cameraphone, send it as a multimedia message, then play it back at the car to unlock it?

No, there are still problems with dry joints around. The SMT has perhaps helped in some ways but you now have problems soldering cable to plugs, the good old tinning on the plug surfaces has now gone and solder just loves....... to run away from it !

Not unless you have an IR camera ! And how do you get IR signals out of your 'phone ?

Not an expert on car locking systems but are they not mostly RF devices ?

Back to square one then ! I think that the message has to be " Don't lose your keys ! "
