Alfas on Ebay

You know you have the bug when you start looking at Alfas on Ebay

Im looking at this one does the description sound as innocent or are there nasties lurking
its described as running on 3 cylinders
ALFA ROMEO 156 LUSSO SALOON CAR NO RESERVE FOR REPAIR on eBay, also, Alfa Romeo, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 11-May-08 21:15:00 BST)

what do you think is causing this, would like a manual one to teach my daughter to drive in

Re: Alfas on Ebay

It could be a coil pack spark plug etc, but if bidding I would prepare for the worst eventuality such as damaged piston or a blown headgasket.

Re: Alfas on Ebay

I know the seller and I was supposed to be buying it and I have not had time to go and pick it up, the seller is a really straight honest guy with an addiction for Alfa’s, I bought a GTV from him a few months ago and there was Alfas everywhere at his house, he is not a dealer but just has a serious Alfa issue, needs counselling I think

As for the car, I think a good service and a set of plugs will sort it, possibly a coil pack. Often the plug holes get filled with oil when cheap skates don’t change the cam cover gaskets when doing belts

I am sure if the seller knew it was more than that he would say

Re: Alfas on Ebay

I was going to pay £600 for it, it would be wrong for me to bid on it now and try and get it cheaper than I was going to buy it for, I think it is worth that all day long

I was going to break it, leather trim, head, crank, cat, wheels, ecu’s, etc, worth about 2k in bits. Buy it and save it, sell it to me when you have the best out of it. Good luck.

Re: Alfas on Ebay

I am not doubting you on this one Ned but generally cars that are sold as non runners are usually a lot worse than they initially appear. As if they were an easy fix, why didn't the seller fix it.

I have been caught with this before, a Certain cinquecento with a failed headgasket. After fixing it, I found lots of other issues that would have been obvious if the car had been a runner.

There are always exceptions though.

I think it would be a good buy form Simon if he wants a car for his daughter, if it turns out to be a bigger problem I will still buy the car from Simon on the seller

Re: Alfas on Ebay

I got 'sniped' on eBay tonight too, proper annoying! My girlfriends laptop has the annoying habit of going back a page randomly, which it did as I was putting in a bid seconds from the auction ending..
