Thumbs Up Traffic light Duel

It's stupid i know. But it's sunday morning and the sun is shining. On my way back from filling the tank i stopped at a set of traffic lights. As i pull away a Golf VR6 pulls along side me and we both accelerate through the next set of lights and around the roundabout.I was ahead, only to be stopped at the next set of lights Now after prevoking this dude in the VR6 i knew this was going to end badly....for me So i slowed for the lights and tried to keep moveing slightly to have some chance.I had almost stopped when the lights changed, so picked up the revs and sliped the clutch a little.I saw Mr VR6 bog down as he tried to pull away quickly, but then he was gone I did manage to keep up with a distance of around two car lenghts once i had got going though.Basically i lost...but not as badly as i thought i would

Yer those VR6's are quick but dont fret mate its a shallow victory for him. He knew he was gonna win and so it means nothing. He will prob pick on somwone else later and lose big time.

Re: Traffic light Duel

I lost a Traffic light GP in my dads Spider TS, to a Mk1 Golf GTi.

As for the VR6, it will be quicker on the straight than a 2 litre GTV but the GTV should mince it round the bends. They are pretty soft and soggy.

Re: Traffic light Duel

Cheers tsu105
I do think the red/black is pretty

As for loseing, i'm not too bothered.A heavy old T.Spark against a VR6 is bound to end badly. In fact i'm quite pleased i managed to keep it in sight

And as belfast bob said the Alfa looks better, and sounds better

My wifes Mk1 Golf GTi is a vicious little sod, it looks like a hairdressers car but has a blue printed TSR bottom end, big valve head and all the assorted goodies because the previous owner of the engine had it built for motorsport and when he smashed up the original car the goodies were transplanted into hers

I am pretty sure this one was a 1.8, they are also pretty light, so on power to weight the golf was probably a lot higher.

My 145 Cloverleaf was also a lot quicker than my dads spider, even after the spider had been re-mapped by angel tuning.

Re: Traffic light Duel

A 2.5 V6 156 will match a VR6. When I had my 156 a guy in a Golf VR6 tried to race me off a roundabout and couldn't catch me

Re: Traffic light Duel

I'm surprised a 2.5 V6 can match a VR6...thought it'd be 'our' like for like engine, the 3.2V6 that would beat it...

..then again I suppose the 2.5 would be pretty close. The popular 3.2v6 test is always the Top Gear one where the 147 wins..

The VR6 Golf is a 2.8 engine and around the 170-180bhp mark iirc. And the 2.5 V6 Alfa is 192bhp and about the same weight maybe the Alfa has better gearing.

Re: Traffic light Duel

My H reg 12V 3 litre 164 used to kick the arse of VR6's in the straights and twisties.

I had lots of fun annoying them.

The 156 2.5 is slightly faster again.
