Re: Does your Alfa make you smile
I always take a round trip that's roughly twice as far as the direct route on my way back from town, just to take in a little bit of dual carriageway and a couple of quiet roundabouts

I don't want to sound odd, but I get a bit upset when people don't notice or appreciate her. When I first took her to work, I took a couple of my colleagues out, and they said it was nice, but have never commented again ...is that a bit over the top ? Am I wrong to expect people to appreciate her as much as I do ?
I know what you mean, bloody Philistines! Don't worry tho, it's their failing not yours, they just don't appreciate automotive art, the perfect union of form and function that Alfa give you to make even a Monday morning drive to work put a smile on your face!

Since having my Spider I take the longest way to get to my destination, the pure connection in driving is fanastic. I completely agree with the "pick me up" drive, long may it live!!

Re: Does your Alfa make you smile
What a storming thread and Im glad I obviously dont live in a world of my own. Yep, Gina makes me smile and has to be driven every day of the week. No excuses. Im a nightmare in the Car Park as well - always catching that second and third look.
I was at a bodyshop the other day, getting a quote on the lower rear spoiler for when my my Novitec twinnies arrive - an old very posh dear was giving the guy a right earful over her Scenic repair. Mid rant, she tottered over to Gina and said "Ohh, I used to own an Alfa Sud (she pronounced it sood), driving an Alfa Romeo does give one such a lift."
Sums it all up really.

Re: Does your Alfa make you smile
Dont worry, Alfa passion is a very personal thing. I had the same when I turned up in my GTV at a football match - one of the lads said "Oh, its one of those", and then preceded to marvel over a VX220 free in a packet of corn flakes car.
I also had a guy defending a BMW on the forum recently - Ive owned two BMWs in my time - a 2002 when I was 17. I dumped that for a 2000 GTV and never looked back. I had a 535 with all the "M" balls on forced on me a as company car a few years ago - that was downright dangerous as I kept falling asleep at the wheel. Forced me to quit my job and start my own business so I could always have an Alfa to drive - no joke

Between 2k-3k is the best I think. And I do all that too it's great Love my Alfa will never sell it and it is made even more special with the Nero Fuoco paint
Agreed on the driving part too haha

Damien, your right.. There are 2 points in the rev range I love. 2k-3k, that DEEP induction noise, then about 3.5kish -4.5k its like a sort of metallic rasp note,, I keep it in 2nd just to hear it
Can't wait till its got a a new ss exhaust and the intake resonator is ripped out!

Re: Does your Alfa make you smile
Whoever said they get wound up when nobody comments about the car is so right.
Yesterday pulled into a pub car park next to a beer garden that was full of people enjoying the sun. Got a parking spot right at the front and waited for the compliments to come flooding in. I'd just spent 3 hours cleaning it and it looked superb.
Not word, b*****ds....

Re: Does your Alfa make you smile
I actually put off the beers to drive me kids straight to their friends houses, then take the longest, twistiest route back. Same for bread, milk, cheese, fuel,........
Oh, and yes, I always look back. Several times. I like flashing the lights with the keyfob to make sure everyone knows she's mine

The lengths you'd go to get back into an Alfa eh Phil......Good man.
Mickeybee, I know what you are saying.....I think it is a personal thing. At least you are happy in the knowledge that you'll be taking it home with you.
My father in law came around one day when I was at work and asked my wife if we'd won the lottery, when my wife said "no, why?", father in law pointed to my GT on the drive, and said "Well, the Aston Martin there ...." It just goes to show that to the untrained eye it looks a million quid !!!
