Re: Just went upto 6000 rpm for the first time ever!

I've only hit the limiter once, TBH I don't think hitting the limiter can be good for the engine. But It does see 6k+ regularly!

Agree with what was said earlier though, the engines just rev so cleanly that you can hit crazy revs without realising most of the time!

£250 at Red Dot, Watford.. And then 10% off if you join the AO Club here. I'd say its worth it, provided your engine is in good condition as it is. Fully serviced, doesn't need a belt change, etc etc.

JUST DONE IT!

She's just a baby, only 10 months old and now 8750 miles on the clock, I didn't want to hit the limiter until she had a safe number of miles done. Also, I find it's not that easy to get it to hit the limiter without breaking the speed limit badly! Did it in first gear up a hill just now!

I think the JTS sounds great around 3000-6000 revs, when the limiter kicked in at 7200 (or was it 7000?) it didn't sound as great as 6000. I won't be hitting the limiter again in a hurry - but the occassional 6000 already happens from time to time

Re: Just went upto 6000 rpm for the first time ever!

Mine's only the 1.6TS, and the limiter is a pain in the backside.

The needle swings up to the redline very freely for a small engine. Especially when your competing in the "Traffic Light Grand Prix".

Got "Owned" by a Corsa the other day, because I got it away from the lights so quick the needle swung round to the red and bounced off the limiter, before I could hook into second. While I was busy "Dying" the Corsa (probably just a 1.2, for even more embarrasment! ) just left me, and then chopped in front of the line of traffic.

It's like hitting a brickwall.

Re: Just went upto 6000 rpm for the first time ever!

Thanks to Pud for the advice, but I have already spent this years budget on the rear suspension (you know how it is).
Hitting the rev limiter can be a bit of a red face moment, particularly if you watch somebody disappear into the distance, whilst your engine decides to wake up again.
It is however better than seeing bits of metal exiting through the bonnet!!

I think my car has hit the limiter about 6 times 5 of which where my fault and one was a buddy driving it.

I go up to 7k and then change before it hits the limiter.

Yeah I don;t think there's much point taking any of these engines past 6K, except for sound

Re: Just went upto 6000 rpm for the first time ever!

I'm lucky enough to own the twinspark and V6 and must say that both have wonderful sounds at 6000 rpm. The twinspark sounds like a spitfire and the V6 has a really deep growl that pushes you into your seat.

Re: Just went upto 6000 rpm for the first time ever!

Have to say that the V6 seems to keep delivering power pretty much all the way up to 7,000. The 1.8 Twin Spark I'm driving for a few days seems to noticeably run out of puff sooner in the rev range than the V6.
