Alfa car hire in Australia?
Hi All
Off to Australia next week for a holiday, and I was wondering if there is any car hire company that rent Alfa’s?, in Sydney or Brisbane or Cairns, so far I have only seen companies hiring fords and Japanese cars and I am not keen on either of those any info appreciated.
Cheers
Nino

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
Seems like a tough call mate.
Perhaps one of our Oz based AOers could be of help?

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
There's a few companies who hire out new spiders in Oz
I think these might be based in Sydney Luxury Cars Hire

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
Avis does Holden (Commodore, Astra, etc)
Hertz will do Ford (Falcon, Focus.. also Toyota Camry)
They will both do Audi/VW (Golf/Passat/TT/A3/A4 etc) - Premium rate
I doubt any of the mainstream will do an Alfa, if anybody does it won't be cheap. You will only get a derv in the VAG cars.
What are you going to do in it (k's)?
Stay away from the Falcon, get a Commodore (your going to Aust. mate - when in Rome and all that!!).

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
There used to be a company in Melbourne that would hire you a Spider, but its gone under now.
So I can't really help - most rental companies seem to only have Holdens, Fords, Mitsubishis, Toyotas and Nissans. You'll need to find one of those places that rents out exotic cars.

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
I have looked at the website of luxury car hire and they have a spider for $195 Australian dollars a day, plus more charges par mile after 200 miles, for ten days it works out more expensive than the rest of the holiday itself.
So it looks like it will have to be a ford or a Japanese car.

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
The Fords aren't too bad, just the Commodore was updated last year.
Then again a mate of mine uses one, also got a Punto 1.9 Sporting and a 156 Ti...lets just say the family don't rate it much...and that's the XR6 (6 cyl sporty version)

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
We got upgraded to an XR6 by Hertz in January. What a piece of ****e. MOST annoying thing was the boot which couldn't take the same luggage as our 156(SW) or the Aurion (flash Camry) we had a day earlier in Sydney. I noticed the new Commodore.. which is why i recommended it, I hear good things about them.

welcome to Oz!
pity i'm down in melbourne. there's generally quite a few alfa's around in sydney and melbourne, but far less elsewhere.
hire a current model commodore if you can. very cruisy car that is big and handles very well for its size.

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
I will be picking up the car tomorrow in Cairns.
I red somewhere that i was supposed to bring my paper counterpart licence but I forgot, so I do not know if they will let me have a car whithout it as i think it was mentioned on a websitethat you have to provide it at the time of rental.
wish me luck

Nah, I never travel/rent cars with the paper
bit. All the info is on the card except fines
and convictions.

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
a toyota corolla automatic
after getting to our hotel I get to the car park and what do I see, a beautiful 156 example in silver in immaculate condition.
still it is better than walking for the next three days.
I will be getting a different car in Brisbane hopefully not a Toyota.
You were right about the license Nev they did not ask for the paper counterpart as mentioned on the avis website.
cheers

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
Mate what you got there is the fastest car in the world. Rev the guts out of it, drive it like you stole it and you'll have HEAPS of fun. Keep it in 1st as long as possible and change up with the shifter.
The mitsubishi 380 isnt as good as the new Commy but not a bad car. Whatever you get, Thrash it!

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
just picked up my second car in Brisbane, at avis they tried to fob me a second Toyota, but it was not very clean and had marks on the seats so I marched back in to the office and complained and things started improving dramatically, in the end I was given a Holden Commodore V6 it goes like stink not that you can go very fast in Australia, as you stand out like a sore thumb but at least when you put your foot down it goes.
Looking forward to a few days touring in it.

Re: Alfa car hire in Australia?
good one. they are not a bad car: good power, comfy, and not bad as an allround vehicle. except perhaps for its size, which you either find good or bad.
keep up the blog! enjoy.
