What ever happened to ?

Does anyone else ever wonder what happened to their "ex" Alfas ? Maybe I'm wierd but when you have enjoyed a particular car you sort of hope it went to a good home

I suppose my Sud (VVR 618 X ) is ancient history and disolved long ago. But jees it was fun and whoever got it even with its high mileage got a good one - the head gaskets had been done, the calipers replaced and it was always mantained according to schedule and then some.

And then did anyone get good use out of my Old 75 Veloce G 378 UDM ? - it was a good mate - we did nearly 50,000 together and it had 100,000 when I sold it. Did it just wither and die getting tattier and tattier or did someone else get some driving pleasure

Re: What ever happened to ?

Yeh, always wondered what happened to my alfaSud (VLS 275T). I traded it for a split new Uno1300 when the model was first launched back in 1984.

I reckon the Sud just simply dissolved and fell to bits - it really was terribly built. It rusted through the rear wing in less than 2 years and went through brake discs like they were consumables...A real dog of a car but of course most of my memories are how good it was dynamically and aurally and how it ripped apart XR3s when they were meant to be the dogs danglies.....

back on track and I did find out what happened to my first Mercedes (a splendid big 1991 Mercedes 200 - H547 GLM). Apparently at that time there was a market in the far east for young high mileage Mercs and that's where it ended up! I put 59,000 miles on it in 18 months - nail of a car..built like it was meant to go to war...Slow as anything off the mark but once wound up on the motorway it was a continent crosser....

"On a scale of one to ten, with ten being a sensitive, new-age man and one being a chimp throwing faeces, I'd put you more towards the monkey axis"

DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online | Home

Click on vehicle enquiry and enter the registration number, it will show if it has been taxed. Sadly my old 75 seems to have been off the road since 2005. My old integrale is still going though, and my 1987 33ti is sitting in my Nans garage

Re: What ever happened to ?

sadly my first ex-Alfa Spider, a US spec '78, went to my...ex, as it were. Oh well, I am sure it broke down the first week she had it, as the SPICA system was a bear to keep in tune, despite an expensive rebuild. I am sure it has rusted away to nothing, as she moved to Boston, where the winters are epic ! Sad, as I lavished so much love and attention on that car...
AR115410004797, where are you now ??

Re: What ever happened to ?

The DVLA thing is interesting if I'm reading it right

my 93 164 has vanished but G 378 UDM has just been taxed - it must have intergallactic mileage on it by now. It had 100,000 when I sold it in 1996 ! But the original twin cam twin sparked or not was a wonderful engine

My old 156 JTD X442 FDB:

Export Marker = export
SORN not due.

Still haven't had confirmation that it isn't mine anymore, despite selling it at the end of February. Should I contact the DVLA?

Re: What ever happened to ?

My mate bought my first 147 so I know that's ok. My old GTV went to a fella in Hull who loves Alfas and searched high and low for the right one before purchasing it off me so I'm pretty sure he's looking after it. So all's good

Re: What ever happened to ?

Sold my 147 to a guy in Newcastle, he had it about a fortnight and got rear-ended, so to speak.

I didnt really like the car anyway but I think that was down to me rushing to buy one and not being more selective over the colour (Gabbiano Blue) with the tan leather interior.

Re: What ever happened to ?

My old Giulietta 1.8 JWD 90V appears to be still running according to DVLA website - also the family's Giulia 1300ti RDA 520F although it has changed it's colour to red from white. Wonder if they belong to anyone using the forum - good recommendation for Alfa longevity!

Re: What ever happened to ?

My '86 33 and '98 146 are both unlicenced so presumably no longer with us.

The 33 isn't a surprise i guess but the 146 was in good nick 3 years ago. Only about 70k on the clock, newish cam belt etc.

Oh dear - on closer examination appears they are both unlicensed - does this mean if they are on DVLA records that they are still in existence but unlicensed or have succumbed to the breakers yard?

Shame, mind you the Giulia was rusting even when it was new, probably be more filler than steel by now!
