How many Alfas have you owned?

and which one was the most disappointing as I assume most of you like your current one the most so I won't ask which was the best

In order

Guilia 1600, the car that sold me on Alfas

Alfa Spider 1750 duetto boat tail, a car I loved but it was rusting when I got it and had various mechanical faults I couldn't afford to fix at the time. Classic case of buying a car I couldn't afford to maintain. Unreliable and fell apart around me.

Sud 1.5
Sprint 1.5
164 3 litre
164 facelift 3 litre 24v - didn't like it as much as the early one for some reason
75 1.8 - regretted buying it within a week, underpowered and the least enjoyable Alfa I've owned by a country mile
155 2.0 TS - just sold and a fabulous car that seemed to need to be driven too fast
GTV 2.0 TS - 1,000 miles in and well happy with it. Older than my 155 but nowhere near as raw but quicker and really enjoying it.

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

Nice list there.

See my signature for my Alfa list - All were great although the Black 164 24v Super suffered a snapped cambelt, not its fault but very dissapointing

I have also owned plenty of Fiats and Lancias.

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

145 1.6ts - great fun but a bit rattly and poorly put together.

166 2.0TS - New inlet manifold, New MAF, New engine (failed big ends), New gearbox, New front and rear swingarms. Lovely car to be in and drive, but it was a bit of an albatros.

156 2.4JTDm 20v Facelift - Wonderful car if a bit of a handful on poor roads. New front swingarms and new sump (I blame the evil speed bumps on ther road up to our house).

159 2.4JTDm SW - A couple of minor niggles. No mechanicals. 12,600 miles covered in 9 months.

No. 4 AO Bratpacker

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

I've had four in total; Sud 1.5 Ti, Alfa GT JTDM, GTV 3.0 V6 and 147 Ti JTDM.

Can't say I've been "dissappointed" with any of them but the two which spring to mind as being the most memorable are the little Sud and the GTV V6.

But don't missunderstand me, the Sud was also the worst car I've ever owned - in terms of build quality and reliability - in fact that little sod of a car put me off Alfa ownership for 20 years and I had to admire from afar. Every time I came near buying another Alfa the spectre of the Sud would loom large over my shoulder.

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

I'm on number 13 - a GT but I've still got number 1 - a spider. The best ? its a toss-up between 75 3.0, GTV6 2.5 and a sud Ti The worst has got to be the facelifted 33 1.5

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

147 1.6 TS Turismo (52 plate). Loved it but took it in for service after six months and was given salesman's current demo for the day (see next car), loved it so bought it! That bloody salesman knew what he was doing!

147 2.0 TS Lusso (03 plate). Loved that even more and, wow, was that car fast! Sold a house in late 2004 and made a healthy profit so treated myself to the next one.

GT 2.2 JTS (54 plate). In Lipari Grey with Tan leather. That car was my dream car but I had nothing but trouble with it from day one (a list of problems as long as your arm). Had enough of Alfa's apalling customer service after a year so swapped it for a Mini Cooper S. Vowed never to buy an Alfa again, then got invited to the launch of the Brera (uh-ohhh).

Brera 2.2 JTS SV (06 plate). Saw it in the showroom on launch day and thought 'I've just got to have that'. Five days later I picked her up and loved every minute of owning that car. Having said that I started getting itchy for a change late last year so got the next one!

Brera 2.4 JTDm SV (57 plate). Every bit as good as the first Brera, although it has a couple of niggles at the minute.

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

1979 Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1.5
1980 Nuovo Guilietta
1983 Alfetta GTV 2.0 (owned for 19 years)
2002 Alfa 147 2.0

The 1980 Nuovo Guilietta was the worst Alfa I have owned....Really poor suspoesion setup and nearly killed me as would not rev over 4500 rpm (until I re-jetted the carb).... I found out that it would not rev when I was passing a stream of traffic and almost had ahead on collision......

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

1983 Sud 1.3SC
1989 33 1.5 Ti
1993 33 1.7ie
1995 145 1.7 16v
1996 155 1.8 16v
2003 156 V6 Veloce (present)

the 145 was probably the one I remember the least fondly....purely because the boxer was not suitable for the heavier 145....still sounded fab ans looked gorgeous, but it's performance was inferior and was thirstier to the one's I had previously, and with only a single bulkhead was somewhat noisier too, esp on the motorway.

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

1968 Giulia 1300 ti
1979 Giulietta 1.8
2004 Alfa GT JTD
2006 Brera 2.2 SV

Loved them all although I wasn't old enough to drive the Giulia on the road so probably didn'y appreciate it as much as the others. Quite liked the Giulietta but it had awful electrics.

Did you go from the Guilietta to the GT or did you have a "sabbatical" from Alfas as so many owners of older charismatic but problem plagued Alfas had, myself included? Seems a big jump in types of Alfa!!

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

Had a few Fiats before but this is my first Alfa. Have wanted one since I first saw one on the road when I was about 11 (!) and have always been slightly put off with the repuation and also the insurance costs. Glad I bought it now though, but not sure if I'd get another Alfa, I just needed to get it out of my system and now I've done it. That's not to say I won't be keeping it, I plan on keeping this car for a long time, probably until it destroys itself or becomes too much to maintain or something... which hopefully it won't

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

Three: -

147 2.0 in silver (3 door with satnav/bose etc)
GTV 2.0 in Black
147 2.0 (5 Door with re-map)

The GTV had the pose factor but was a pain in the arse, both the 147's have been spot on. The black looks slight nicer I think.

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

I had company cars from the Giulietta until 1992. But managed a couple of Morgans - a Plus 4 with a superb 2 litre Fiat twin cam engine then a Plus 8 which you could plough fields with ! Then a variety of cars including a Citroen ZX diesel (mistake) Golf GTI's, BMW 320D touring and a return to the fold with the GT. Don't see myself moving away from Alfa - can be irritating at times but nothing to beat them!

I have to admit I was put off a little by the Giulietta's thirst for electronic instruments but I think that was the only problem I had with it.

156 GTA Q2 SW

Re: How many Alfas have you owned?

1987 1.5 Cloverleaf Sprint (Only had it 1 year but loved the look) - got the Alfa bug and then got the 33
1993 1.7 16v 33 (Had this for 5 years, brought it ex-demo, cost nothing to run in that time, sold it after 5 years for more than half what I paid for it! - was really happy with this car) - financially the best car I've ever had!
1999 156 2.0 SP2 (Purchased almost new, never went wrong, 100% reliable, no drama's - was sorry to see it go - needed the extra Sportwagon space)
2003 156 GTA SW (Purchased almost new - had quite a few issues, but really enjoyed the car and loved the GTA sooooo much... I replaced it with another......!)
2005 156 GTA SW (Again ex-demo, really happy to have got a very late 156 GTA SW, but had a "on slaught" of issues around October last year with almost every suspension bush part replaced, new rad, new starter, new clutch - had it back for about 2 weeks - diff went through gearbox - therefore new gearbox and I added a Q2 ! - other than Q2 and clutch all under warranty)

Plus loads of other Fiats

Best Car - 156 GTA SW (that's why I brought another !)

Worst Car - 156 GTA SW (both have been off road for some length of time for one thing or another - and both have let me down)

Still really love the GTA's though!!!! can't think what I'd want to replace it with and my car is almost now perfect!
