Tempted away from a Beemer...

Hi.

I have had a GT before and then moved on to a 630i sports for the auto box and added luxury (up and down the m6 every day!). I still can't shake the love of Alfas off though and have been thinking of the diesel Brera for the economy. Will be a slight pain to go back to manual when I am "parked" on the m6 but the beemer is a thirsty beast.

Some of the alfa threads make we wonder tho whether the Brera is such a good idea, will have to try one myself of course.

Any views?

How can a car that looks like a Brera be a bad idea

Re: Tempted away from a Beemer...

Agreed but if some of the seat reviews I have read are true, my current journey is going to be much worse!

Brera JTDm should be available with Q-Tronic auto gearbox as well. So you can get it all, looks, powerful diesel and auto box.

Unfortunately the 2.4 will only return in the low 30's mpg - if that's important to you.

Diesel - Bah "the fuel of the Devil" (ah la Clarkson) Go for 8 or so MPG less and get the 3.2 V6

And with the Gov't today announcing 30% off Petrol Fuel duty in the UK as of Monday....

Re: Tempted away from a Beemer...

Still, there I was sitting overtaking a bus on Saturday with two cars in front of me. New 5-series appears up me rear bumber as if I've just to drive over the froint two cars. Traffic clears, foot down - BMW a dot in the distance. Slow backdown to cruising speed - BMW closes to about 50 yards and decides he doesn't want to try and overtake me again.

Never did find out what it had under the bonnet.

Re: Tempted away from a Beemer...

Dont do it - get the 2.2 petrol - you will find a few threads on here relating to the diesel Brera, it only does about 3 - 4 mpg more than the 2.2 petrol.

It will not pay for itself at 3K more starting proce and the cost of the diesel compared to ulneaded- my mate has a diesel and is guttted as he is only getting 3mpg more than my spider.

Yeah - I am getting that feeling loud and clear - will test them both to be sure but looking less likely to be the diesel

My spider has just over 2k on the clock and is doing around 29 combined but I do drive it very lightly - I hope that this will increase as the engine loosens up a bit.

My advice buy one that is pre-registered and you will save a fortune.

I had the spider for £5.5K below list with an amazing part ex price from Meridian Milano in portsmouth.

All done by phone and e-mail - just turn up and drive away.

Re: Tempted away from a Beemer...

Nice car Jug.

Just read the thread - noticed some had used the red dot remap to improve mpg (and the obvious).
