This may seem like an obvious one, but does anyone know if post MY08 Brera seats (the later style) will fit straight into a pre MY08 car? Are the seat runners/bolt holes identical?

Also, do the later style seats have any of the 'rocking' issues that the earlier ones had?

The problem I have is that despite having had TWO new seat bases under warranty, the issue doesn't seem to go away fully. I'm now into my 4th year warranty (Alfa care extension), and they are stating that the latest 'creaking' noises and slight movement aren't covered any longer! despite only having the last new base fitted in March earlier this year! (while still in the 3 year warranty period).

I've been informed that the seat 'rocker' now needs replacing, which isn't as bad as the full base, but still going to cost me £500+

One option would be to put the £500 towards a post 08 used set of seats - if I could find a set of course!

Another thing is the manual rope you pull to release the boot is apparently under the passenger seat on the left hand side....i can't seem to find it.
I had an embarrasing moment where i needed to open the boot and my car decided not to open it the conventional way for about 10 minutes.
Alfa's! who'd av em?

Hi All
I am looking for a boot badge to replace the JTDm on the rear of my 159.
The red m is broken off. Plenty of searching turns up front badges but not rear ones.
Any ideas where I would get one?
Thanks in advance

Hi All
New to the forums here - Hope this post goes well!
My 159 1.9 JTDM failed its NCT (MOT In Ireland).
The report says the steering Linkage Inner tie rod end is worn.

Having spoken to a reputable mechanic here he's saying that the steering rack only comes in one unit and you cannot acquire parts of it separately. He is estimating up to €900 euro including fitting.

He also advises that he has a few racks taken off other alfas and he may be able to salvage a part.

I welcome any opinions on what my options are - Ultimately I have little choice but to take his advice given that it wont pass MOT without it?

Hello All,

Hello All,

I have recently purchased a 2008 159 Jtdm 2.4 Q4 diesel and as I have no previous experience driving an Alfa some particulars of the transmission and engine are giving me some concern. I would like your opinion if this sounds particularly within normal range, or if I should bring it into a garage.

When the car is stationary and turned off the transmission will shift very freely without any resistance to move through all 6 gears and R. When I then start the car and sit idle it also shifts very freely. Once I start to drive I start to feel some resistance entering all gears and also hear some mechanical linkage noises from the front of the car (shifting while stationary, but no noise while at speed) which are different and a bit louder than the normal shifting noises one would hear. When shifting while driving I cannot shift very fast as I have to wait until the gears let me shift and sometimes when downshifting there can be a lot of resistance. There is no grinding or a feeling of metal contact and coming out of a gear is not an issue, it is only getting into a gear. Also the clutch does not slip at all.

Also when driving and at a low idle (~1500rpm) when I lift off the gas pedal I can feel a very profound jerk as the engine speed seems to match the wheel speed. I also feel this jerk when I am shifting. Other than these issues the car drives very well and only has 33km on it.

Driving an Alfa, a diesel, a turbo, and an AWD with modern stability controls is a new thing for me, my last two cars were very different from the 159 (Honda Civic Type R and a Mitsubishi 3000GT), so my feeling is that I simply have to change my driving style to match the car and the setup, but I would like your opinion if what I am experiencing is simply part of the “experience” or I might have another issue.

Thanks in advance to all.

Holymoses!

At 7.5K Miles my engine oil needs changing, i believe this is a sympton of the shyte DPF putting deposits into the oil and over time degrading it.

As i'm a low mileage driver and have to do many short trips i was wondering if a slightly different engine oil grade might work better for me say against a rep who's doing 30K miles a year ?

As my engine temp isn't always at the desirable level would a less viscous oil help or should I just stick with the 5W-40 for my 1.9JTD ?

TIA,
Mike.

I hear John at Mangos has fitted Eibach springs to standard Breras. Has anyone had these? Apparently it lowers the car by 20mm settling to 35mm and really improves the handling.

I'm worried it might start bottoming out on speed bumps (you know the ones that are designed for buses to stradle), but perhaps the increased spring rate would prevent this?

Also, Mangos have a 3 week wait to get the parts in, so does anyone know a fitter closer to south London who will fit these (and some upgraded front pads)!

Am I correct in thinking that the Q4 four-wheel drive system is available on the 2.4 diesel but standard on the 3.2 V6 petrol engines? All the 2.4s I've seen advertised are just two-wheel drive, so was this a particularly expensive option or is there another reason for the lack of 2.4 Q4s?

For anyone who owns a Q4 (petrol or diesel), what's the handling like? Tyre wear? Reliability? Effect on performance and economy? Any other info would be useful, as I'm considering a 159 and would prefer 4WD for winter use.
