The ABS light is NOT on.
I have tried resetting the ECU once but it didn't work. I'll probably try this tomorrow as I will have more time.

Anyone have any mroe ideas? I have also tried changing the whole speedo unit but again... didn't work.

Over the last 2 years, work has been strenuous, sleepless nights, 8 times the work load (I work for Jobcentreplus) Recession has caused nothing but stress!
Because of this, i almost neglected the car to borderline engine rebuild!

I posted a thread about fuel economy being pants on my Twinny, well, last night i cured it and managed 38mpg,
Simple answer was some Castrol GTX and a new oil filter, this changed my fuel consumption from 16mpg all the way to 38mpg, The reason it was such rubbish was because i had 1.3 litres of fuel in the sump

I'm shocked that the car is still running, I noticed straight away how quiet it became.

I'm not ashamed to admit either that my job has caused me to neglect a lot in my life soo far, It's turnt me into a lazy bum!!!!

Time to finish up on that decorating of the house next!!!!

Where is the lambda on bank 1? The fault is clear for now, but won't know any more until a decent length drive has been done - is that correct?

Cheers

Hi guys.

This is my first post on this forum and I'm afraid it may be a bad one! My 2.0 GTV dumped its coolant a few weeks ago all over a car park. After topping it up, the problem never returned until recently. On a fairly long journey, the temperature gauge went very high so I pulled over. The coolant was boiling itself and the reservoir was steaming like crazy! Obviously this also led to the coolant emptying itself again. I allowed the engine to cool and limped the car back. Whilst trying to reproduce this fault at home, the engine seemed to be behaving itself again. However, after turning the car off again I looked in the oil filler cap and there was a white mayo-type substance. The coolant reservoir also looks like it has an oily substance in it. I'm presuming these are clear signs of a HEAD GASKET FAILURE!!! Take a look at the attached photos I took and see what you think.

Thanks,

Hello, I have a small niggle with my phase 2 2.0 GTV, and I'm not sure if it is anything I should be worried about.

From cold, the radiator fan comes on after about 3-5minutes of running, and will run for about 10 seconds, then stop. It will then come on an off in this same cycle approximate every 60 seconds (60 seconds off, 10 seconds on). The fan is quite noisy, making the car sound a bit like a hoover. :(

The temperature gauge suggests the temps are normal with that reported on other threads (it gets upto about 90 in city running, drops to 70-80 for motorway).

So....Is the fan running normally, or should it not come on until the temperature > 90o? If this is not normal, what could I do to sort it out?

Thanks in advance for any help received.

Hi all, New user on this site and also a newbie GTV owner. I bought a 2001 Alfa GTV 2.0 TS Lusso yesterday. it has 2 problems that I need to rectify.

Firstly (and the main one) is that it wont lock. If I press the button on the Meta fob the locks go down but then pop back up a few seconds later. If i put the key in the door and turn it the locks go down but the pop up again a few seconds later?? Any Ideas on what this may be? I spoke to the guy at abacus alarms and he said its not the Meta Alarm but a problem with the car.

Secondly the drivers window doesnt work. The passenger window goes down and up fine using both the control on the drivers door and the passenger door. Is this likely to be just a fuse or maybe a relay?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have looked at fuses, none blown and the bulbs are fine too.
It would be obvious to the naked eye if the fuse was gone right?
The brake lights and indicators work fine.
Anyone got experience of this?
All help...

P.S. I could not help but be impressed with the way you could access the fuse box the ease with which the rear lights could be taken out and put back. Alfa defintely had some proper engineers when they made the GTV.
I have a v.v. golf and it would be a serious pain in the ar$e just to change a rear bulb.

Hi There Alfistas - I have just bought a phase 2 GTV model year 2000 very beautiful - and it has an Alfa alarm system fitted - three problems are present: first, I cannot dis-arm the system temporarily - when I open the car on the remote, I cannot leave it for more than 2 minutes without the alarm re-arming whether I want this to happen or not which is infuriating - so if you are sitting in the car without the engine running and then open the door the alarm starts screaming: I would like to have the choice of being able to sit in the car without the engine running for more than 2 minutes - is this possible, does anyone have a copy of the instructions for using this alarm, please. Second, the car came to me with only one ignition/remote alarm key, this makes me nervous (I have been been told that the phase 2 cars do not have a dark red master key) and this worries me - the Alfa Shop boys in Norwich have told me that to get a spare has to be done via an Alfa dealer and the whole cloning excercise will cost more than £200 - is there any other way of doing it less expensively? Finally, the remote central locking locks the car just fine but when the remote is used to unlock the doors, the system unlocks the driver's door on the first bleep and then locks it again on the second bleep so you have to then unlcok the door with the key - is there a simple fix please? Thanks for any advice, Chris
