2.4 jtd 10v wont start

Hi all new to the forum.
Been over to 156 forum but no one can seem to help.
My poor alfa starting struggling to start when warm so changed the crank sensor had the fault code cleared, when in for service, but no the engine wont start when cold!

Had the car diagnosed. Came back with two faults. One Being the crank sensor which I have replaced so fault was cleared when diagnosed. The other being glow plug circuit. Mechanic said that two of the plugs were down. They have been replaced but still the car struggles to start. Was fine only 3 days ago. Fuel is present. Strong cranking, crank sensor replaced, faulty glow plugs replaced. What would be next on the list to do?

Just trying to work with my mechanic as best I can to give him any help in the right direction.

He has tried new battery but our battery is fine.

Could it be the EGR valve or bad ground connection as I have read somewhere?

Have a look at Someone else's 2.4 JTD won't start (need high pressure fuel pump 2.4 jtd). Ignore the high pressure fuel pump bit that the forum software has added automatically!

Mine was exactly the same (changed the glow plugs ... checked the fuel pre-heater ... etc ) ... it turned out to be injector #1, it was leaking back, therefore all the fuel was getting pushed into it and then back out through the back ...

Hi Chris thanks for the reply.

Was it a costly job to get the Injector replaced?

Yes!!!! I got a brand new one fitted (£220+VAT for the part IIRC ) ... it might be worth getting a recon one, although I believe that it will need to be programmed for the injector position ... you're going to want to get a leak back test done first though just to confirm

Finally got me car back. All sorted now. Was the brand new crank sensor being faulty. Mechanic fitted new Bosch unit and reset ECU. All good now. She runs perfect again. Just need to sort the little knock on front suspension now. Lol me thinks it's the anti roll bar bushes.

Well car starts. But is taking 6-7 cranks before it fires into life. Once it's been started once she is fine. I can turn it off straight away and it will fire up perfect after 2-3 turns.
Why is it struggling for that first time?
