Help 156 JTS - Gearbox failure - HELP

Just had a BIG Failure and not sure what to to.

Gearbox? decided to go boom - Not looked inside yet but all the oil came out in one go on the road so don't think it will be good. Car wont drive but engine running fine.
What should my options be????

1, How much should i pay for repair if it needed the full Gearbox doing?
2, is it cheaper to get a replacement box instead? if so how much should i be paying :-
a, to get a full gearbox?
b, for fitting of one?

Car is 2004 156 JTS 2.0 Sportswagon (Manual) 53k on clock.

Any Help in this area would be very much appriciated as we don't have another car so stuck until fixed.

I think a 2.0 TS box will fit too.

156 JTS

Thanks for that, I am still waiting for garage to get back with the damage report - i will then know.

i have a 156 1.8TS sat on the drive with a great engine and gearbox but the rust has done its worst on the underside of the body - no more MOT's for that one.

Not having a working Alfa makes me cry - all the way to the Bank Manager.

I'ts likely the diff has let go, you could swap the internals from the JTS box, and put them in the 1.8 box as the diff is the same on both boxes.
