alfa 156 tapping noise from engine

hi all i have a alfa 156 1,8 ts on 2000 model and making a tapping noise gets louder when in high revs any body knows what can it be cheers

Any history of cambelt snaps / low oil?

Tapping, clicking, knocking or sounds like a tractor. Could be worn lifters, knackered variator or worse case big end bearings
