Dual Mass Flywheel advice

Evening chaps - looking for some advice on DMFs....my 166 twink is currently getting a replacement engine popped it and we're unsure if the DMF is okay to reuse. Apparently it can be twisted about 8mm - is this beyond its tolerance?

I'm really hoping to not have to get another flywheel if this one is usable....

Could you not change it for a solid one? Can't really see why a 2.0 petrol would need one...

Looking at Eper, it would seem that earlier ones had a standard flywheel....but what other changes would be required to go back to this I don't know.

A new DMF one is listed at £375 though!

Edit: I may be talking tosh there... It could be an auto/manual difference (can't remember which yours is).

I would be inclined to ditch the DMF as well.

They only made manual gearbox 2.0 166's didn't they?

If so there are loads of 156 bits around to do the conversion with.

i think the gearbox is different to the 156 though and although the clutch kit is the same as that used by 156/147 etc JTDs the DMF is different. The verdict is that it's okay and is going back on the car with a new clutch kit

Oh, and looking at clutch catalogues all twink 166s (both the early 5 speed and the later 6) use a DMF....

If the clutch is the same, and the engine is the same, I wouldn't mind betting that a solid flywheel is a straight swap..

But as your DMF is ok, it isn't too much of a worry anyway.


I just think, as a whole that DMF's are pretty much pointless and are something else to go wrong, especially on petrol cars.

yeah, it's not like the twinny has oodles of torque anyway! Clutch is not the same as the petrol 156/147 - same as the diesels (they have DMF as well)
