Alfa 156 1.6 and 1.8 engine interchangeable?

Hi,

I have a 2001 1.6 Alfa 156 with a noisy top end, I have a 1999 1.8 156 and wondered if the heads are interchangeable and/or will the entire 1.8 engine fit the gearbox etc of the 1.6?

Thanks in advance Maf

I know the 1.8 and 2.0 are the same, but I think the 1.6 is different.
Not sure about the gearbox though. IMHO they will probably fit cos it should be the internals that are different. But you just never know with Alfas

The box will fit not a bother. The ECU's are different between the 1.6 and the 1.8 if you have the full car just swap the chips outta the keys and code box for the key and away you go no arseing around with changing locks etc.

The 1.6 and 1.8 engines are the same, the 2.0 has the balancer shaft. However the 1.8 and 2.0 have the variable length inlet manifold which the 1.6 does not. All the heads are the same, only the block is different
