How easy to change GTV V6 Cambelt?

Tittle says it all really.

Very competent mechanic (friend of mine) could undertake this, done many before although never an Alfa. We were thinking of doing mine, cost of cambelt kit and some beers!

Does this job require alot of Alfa specific experience?

What about the clutch? is that quite standard to other cars?

Chris155 wrote an excellent guide to changing the cambelt.

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/motor...-cam-belt.html

As far as the clutch goes it is quite difficult due to lack of access. If you are planning on doing the clutch and cambelt together I think it would be easier to drop the engine.

Jason156 did a guide to changing the clutch a while back.

Cheers Symon.

Do you think its worth doing myself or just give it to the specialists, pay them and be happy?

Ok After reading the article by chris, there is no CHANCE I will be doing this. I like a challenge and take most things on, but forget doing this! Pay my Money had be happy with a specialist doing it.

Enough said.

Hi John147, I'm in Cheltenham and work in Gloucester, probably driven past each other on a few occasions. The belts were going to be done by a friend of mine, he is a mechanic but no alfa experience. After reading the article above I dont think its worth the risk him doing it, its quite alot of pressure, and if he did get it wrong there is no warranty etc.

I have taken the GTV to Cloverleaf a few times for a couple of bits, whats your experience of them? It doesnt sound like you rate them?

P.s. one day we should meet up and go for a blast around some of the rather nice roads we have around gloucestershire.

I managed to do my cambelt and water pump with no experience doing these things. Not saying it was an easy job by any means (quite difficult in fact!) but as long as he follows the steps properly and has the right tools a decent mechanic should be well able to do it..

hi buddy going for a burn sounds like a plan !! as to cloverleaf i have only used them once and he was ok but its stuff i here of others but others that really like him,, daveypark off here uses him all the time for his gtv and is happy with the work they do but a friend who no longer has his alfa kept taking it back there all the time some times it was for work to be corrected so theres good and bad, and as i do a lot of work on my cars i am a bit funny as to who i let touch my car i can do most things but when it comes to the big jobs i take it some where, the only place i have used is autolusso when my diff went and they seem gd but a long drive away , i here of a place in pershore that is ment to be good and the guy that owns the place used to have a gta so place seems good but i have yet to use them
