Cooked engine

Hi,

When a 1.8TS engine overheats (burst radiator hose), and seizes, is it completely ruined or can it be overhauled?

It's not mine...it's a car I'm looking at fixing/breaking.

Cheers,

Iain

Re: Cooked engine

Wrecked generally be cheaper to get Autolusso to fit a reconned one.

Re: Cooked engine

Thought as much. If I get it (and it's a big 'if') it'll probably be to break. Unless I come across a good engine with recent belt service. Otherwise it's not economical...

Thanks,

Iain

Re: Cooked engine

It might not be that bad - you'll need to whip the head off to look at the bores. If you're lucky, a set of rings and honing the bores with a drill powered glazebuster might save it.
A £150 engine from a breakers given a freshen up (belt, tensioners, head gasket) might be a better idea but are 156's worth enough to make it worthwhile? Is this one even worth breaking when the valuable bit is buggered? Scrapyards are starting to fill up with them now.
