2.5 V6 in RWD set up

Does anyone have experience of using the 2.5 V6 in a RWD application? I'm currently pulling my MOT failed 156 apart but was wondering if the sump and so on will be ok as is in a RWD set up or whether a baffle of some kind might be worth fitting?

I'm planning on using the S2000 gearbox and putting the lot into one of these, except in pearl white

Damn, why isn't the pic there?

Unless someone knows of another sensibly available gearbox that might bolt straight to the V6?

You looking at front-engined RWD set up? Or rear-engined RWD?

Alfaspence is replacing his V6 12v with a V6 24v engine in his Alfa 75. Worth having a search on the 75 section for advice

Sorry, should've said it'll be front engined RWD.

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

Best bit is that the car is actually smaller than a Mk 1 MX-5! And I'm going for a target weight of about 650 kgs. Which will be just over 300 bhp/ton!

So what mods, if any, do we reckon are needed for a RWD set up then?

There's a bloke from Whitby with a Alfa V6 powered Westfield/Caterham/Locost. I think he posts on the Locost Builders forum and has a couple of videos on You Tube.

The 75 has the clutch & gearbox at the back of the car though.
Flywheel at the front.
Prop running at full engine speed.

There was (is) a twin turbo GTV6 around that had a front mounted gearbox fitted.

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

The gearbox location won't be a problem. Well, at least it won't affect the engine much. All I need to know at this point in time, is related to the engine itself. Gearbox issues I shall leave for another time!

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

i would say you are gonna need to do summat with the sump, as the fins are gonna be the wrong way around, so no cooling there, i would think some mods and a bit of though would get you a 75 sump on there, so the fit the right way, dont forget a set of GTA cams in there before you get it running

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

I was going to go for a remote filter and oil cooler as space will be a little restricted in the engine bay. I've spoken to a few guys who have the 3 lt 12V in kit cars, and they have all gone for the 75 sump and manifolds, so that should sort those out.
As for tuning it, I need it to pass it's original emissions test, so they may have to wait for the first round of upgrades along with ITBs from a Triumph bike and some after market ECU. Then I planning on fitting a supercharger!

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

Unless your plan is pretty long term or you aren't certain about the blower, I'd skip the ITB stage TBH - you won't really want those with the blower, and even using bike TBs, it'll be a fair amount of money and effort wasted.

I'm nearly done fitting an Eaton M90 to a 12V 3l V6 at the moment. An M62 might have been a better size, but I think this will work......looking at roughly 8psi I hope. Stock internals.

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

Why would you advise against the ITBs coupled to a blower set up? It probably would be at least a year or more between the two upgrades, as there are a good few cam options and so on to work out first. They would also make a few things with the set up easier to sort out, such as injector positions, although I could always just remove the throttle spindles and use a large TB else where.

Re: 2.5 V6 in RWD set up

Hi chris S. Would be interested to know a few more things about the supercharger you are fitting as I am looking to fit one on a 3 litre 166. On what car are you fitting it? Do you intend to use the standard gearbox?
