Re: Where is the cheapest place to get air con re-gassed

the most important part of regassing an aircon is sucking the vacuum. how good are the diy kits in that? i'd say the cheapest place is likely the one that requires the shortest drive, with today's fuel prices...

Re: Where is the cheapest place to get air con re-gassed

If it just needs a top-up (ie it's working but not that great) then a DIY Halfords job would do. But £45 sounds pretty good, assuming you trust KwikFit not to find £1000 worth of work to do on the car.

If it's totally empty, then you've most likely got a serious leak that needs fixing first. First port of call is the condenser rad (if you're lucky!).

Re: Where is the cheapest place to get air con re-gassed

DIY kits were outlawed in July last year across Europe.

Selling Flourinated gases in disposable containers is an offence.

'Controlled substances shall not be placed on the market
in disposable containers, except for essential uses'

those kits aren't much good anyway, the most important part of the regassing is the vacuum cycle, which you don't have at all with a DIY charge...

Re: Where is the cheapest place to get air con re-gassed

I used one the other week to top up the car - it worked fine. Big proviso is that it's a minor top-up to replace lost gas due to normal leakage, not an attemtp to re-gas a totally empty system.

Regulations a joke as usual though - what's a car A/C system if not a disposable container??? One stone in the wrong place and you've got 700g of R134 winging it's way to the stratosphere.....
