Your fuel gauge is lying to you ... it's logarithmic, you've probably only got a sniff of fuel left!!!
btw just got 565miles and still had a few litres left ...

Re: How many miles to a full tank??
Just got 395 to Birmingham and back. Around a hundred all the way which I think is pretty good. Reckon it still had a bit of fuel in it, but as the gauge is a bit inaccurate didn't want to risk running out.

Just pretend you don't have a fuel computer, that way you'll always get a true MPG figure.
47mpg is fine, unless you are a grandma.

But for a 1.9 diesel... I thought it should be more around 52-55mpg...

52-55mpg on a run maybe.. Sitting at 70 on a motorway I'd expect that, but 47mpg on a tank average is fine. Its suprising how much fuel town driving and non-motorway driving in general uses. My 2.4 JTD used to average 32mpg or so mostly, and 40mpg on a run.

Yeah I read the thread. I think buying an cheaper, older big petrol engined car is the way forward

^ what Pud says
my 2.4 JTD gets a steady 7 - 8 l/100 (35-40) mpg and can do a bit better on a very long run (>300km droning away at 120km/h for example). I tend to fill up between 500 and 600 km on the trip meter which reads 1/4 full on the gauge, but the reading can vary I've never run it dry so I'm not too sure how much is in the bottom 1/4
is it a 55 ltr tank in a 2.4 156?
Oh, and on my car at least the fuel usage computer is almost as insane as the rest of the electronics so I don't trust it at all.

Re: How many miles to a full tank??
I don't really trust the computer now as it seems to be about 10mpg out...

I've been saying this about fuel computers for years
AFAIK my 2.4 JTD had a 60 (63?) litre tank as well.
Congrats on being made rep Tony, hows the Rep's Lounge?
