One of my favouritest things in all of the world is seeing blokes on Asda's car park who have elected to get one of these as a company car instead of a 5-series. Oh how I laugh as they load their shopping into the bed in the ****ing rain as their wife and kids look on with a look of pure hatred. Damp bread anyone?

Old battered pick-ups are cool. New shiny ones driven by accountants aren't.

Not a fan of Ford but surprisingly cool look (when used in the right way). A hard cover for the flatbed (level with the sides) could ensure shopping stays dry but why an accountant would buy one is beyond me - a car should be a pleasure to drive, serve a purpose and possess a sense of style. While 1 & 3 are a combination of design and opinion, I just don't see how an accountant justifies one as a company car... or a bank manager etc.

All of that is spot on, especially the last bit.

That said, I'm currently rather admiring my neighbour's new VW Amarok (daft name) pick up in white with big wheels and chrome roll bar which looks rather nice tbh.

A friend of mine had a Hi-Lux for a while about 7-8 years ago when the tax fiddle for company pick-ups was still on. It had leather, A/C, big alloys, metallic paint etc etc. And was absolutely shocking to travel in. In order to be classed as a commercial vehicle and get the tax fiddle it had to be capable of carrying about 500kg in the bed. This effectively meant that the rear suspension was pretty much solid. Unladen it bounced around like a spacehopper on speed.

Fine if you have a use for it (the base model with steel wheels and no fancy bits stuck to it is enough for that),but once dressed up it is about as much use as a handbrake on gate post.

Basic workhorse......yes I can see point but it's not cool.

Big wheels, chrome bars, leather interior, load cover, row of spotlights,etc,etc......embarrassingly uncool (especially when you have to do 54 point turns to park it in the supermarket car park due to the p#ss poor turning circle.
