BMW 507 Touring Sport
It made its debut back in the summer of 1955. Designed by Albrecht "Zeppo" Goertz. Even though this car is a design icon, it almost drove BMW to bankruptcy as the company lost money with each unit sold. Only 252 were built.
Engine: 90º V8
Displacement: 3,168 cc
Aspiration: Natural
Power: 150 bhp (111.9 kW) @ 5,000 rpm
Torque: 173 lb·ft @ 4,000 rpm
Configuration: Front-engined, rear-wheel drive
Weight: 1,315 kilo (2,899 lbs)
0 - 60 mph: 10.5 seconds
Top speed: 122 mph (196 km/h)

Seldom will I say this of a BMW
that is a thing of beauty, it looks delicate but purposeful, it lacks that Teutonic attitude, it could easily be mistaken for a 50's Ferrari, Alfa or Lancia
sub zero for me

I saw one in the flesh high in the mountains near Lake Garda Italy a few years ago. It was parked with no one near by and all their kit maps hats etc left lying in the car with the roof down. I thought at the time what a great car and great if was being used and not in a museam. The BMW Z8 is influenced by the styling.

As the first person to vote 'uncool', I must explain that I find that car entirely unattractive.
I'd never even heard of it before this poll, so I would expect to find most of the surviving examples in 'museams'.
The only reason it didn't get seriously uncool is cos it has a V8.

Sorry, but the nose sits way too high, and the exhaust is left hanging like a loose scaffolding pole. The bottom left picture down the door and wings looks great, but it's just a little wide of the mark for me I'm afraid.

Sub-zero because:
1. It looks stunning.
2. John Surtees has one that he was given by MV Augusta when the 507 was brand new. There was a great story about it once in classic and sportcar about how he convinced BMW to sell him one slightly before it went on sale then he had to find someone to pay for it.

Remember the story too, I think he managed to get a Disc brake conversion and power upgrade before they went into production too. I wonder if he dared use it when driving for Ferrari, or did he get an even better company car like a 250 Lusso or 275GTB maybe

Oh it is cool. Sub zero in fact.
It radiates insouciance.
Charming and delicate and made in such small numbers it is hard to believe the kings of rep-mobile mass-production could have made it.

It sort of reminds me of Uma Thurman. Visually, there are aspects of it that don't entirely work but they somehow add something rather than detracting.

so it could be said that the 507 was the great grandaddy to the modern rep-mobile.....how times have changed

From a late '50s Riviera world when exotic cars like Pegaso's, Aurelia Spider's and 300SLR's were driven by cigarette smoking playboys and racing drivers, or posed against by timeless beauties like Hepburn and Bardot.
So cool it hurts.
