Gumpert Apollo Sport
This time we have what can only be considered a street legal race car. The company that makes it, Gumpert, claims that it was made with the possibility of it also being a daily driver, even if its real place is on the racetrack. You can also order it any color you want.
Engine: Audi 90º V8
Displacement: 4,163 cc
Aspiration: Twin turbo
Power: 800 bhp
Weight: 1,200 kilo (2,645.5 lbs)
Drive: Rear-wheel drive
0 - 60 mph: 3.0 seconds

Seriously uncool. Incredibly ugly and trying way too hard.
I'm sure that on a track it's in its element. However, tooling around the car park at Morrisons you're going to look like a twonk.

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
Cool because of what it does on track.
It is a triumph of function over form and is ugly because of the aerodynamics.

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
surely a 'gumpert' is a condition you're diagnosed with?
Falls at the first hurdle.

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
Seriously uncool for all sorts of reasons.
First: its overbearing hideousness. Imagine how anyone would look driving one on the street.
Second: the name. Even "Apollo" sounds like a naff 90's kit car.
Third: the use of the Audi engine relegates it below real supercars (McLaren F1 notwithstanding).
Fourrth: I've seen roadtests in mags that suggest it doesn't quite deliver all it says on the tin.

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
Not sure I'd get this over any other track-focused supercars. But still, I voted cool for the effort.

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
I think it's more A10 Warthog than F4 Phantom myself.
Shades of RS200?
It's like a German Noble powered by Audi?
It's for the track and therefore competes more with more track focused cars?
I suspect it struggles on the bangs per buck criteria?
Turbos?

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
I think anyone who can afford one, will have a different daily driver. Although it would be a bit of fun to nip down the shops in!
To pick up on the A10 Warthog idea, I have a theory that function over form often can be beautiful, especially when it is done on such an uncompromising basis. The Apache helicopter is another example of this.
I'm saying cool.

I think you're right about form over function.
You'd still look like a complete *** if you turned up at ASDA in this though.

Re: Gumpert Apollo Sport
It's got a great specification - but is too hardcore to be a cool roadcar - so uncool despite what it does and how it does it
