Nissan GT-R

This time we have a Japanese vehicle that has to live up to the premise of "an ultimate supercar for anyone, anywhere, at anytime". It's a mechanical and technical masterpiece. But is it also cool?

Engine: VR38DETT6 Alloy 60º V6
Displacement: 3,799 cc
Aspiration: Twin turbo
Power: 473 bhp (353 kw) @ 6,400 rpm
Torque: 434 lb·ft @ 3,200 rpm
Weight: 1,750 kg (3,859 lbs)
Drive: ATTESA ET-S All-Wheel Drive
0 - 60 mph: 3.5 seconds
Top speed: 193 mph (310.54 km/h)

Re: Nissan GT-R

It is one of the cars that forms the absolute pinnacle of what is possible when the best in engineering, technology and performance come together.

That car is so much more than just a standard car with an above average pretty look. It's a sedan that sh*ts on Murcielago's and costs next to nothing. Tune it a bit and it'll sh*t on a McLaren F1.

I doubt it will ever be forgotten.

More like one day in the future all cars will be like that.

What a great car.

Unfortunately, being a Datsun it can never be cool.

Well, it costs around US$70,000.00. That's hardly next to nothing!

Re: Nissan GT-R

Technically it may be great.....by virtue of the computers......

But what about the organic mass that pushes the pedals and moves the steering wheel?

Hats off to the Japanese for making cars that almost defy the laws of physics, but they seem to have removed the driver input....

as a result i voted uncool

Re: Nissan GT-R

Definitely cool.

Not sub-zero (and not because it's a Nissan): it just lacks that certain something for me. A proper gear lever might be a good place to start though.

Re: Nissan GT-R

uncool, like most jap-cars. I couldn't bring myself buy one of those over a Porsche 911 or similar even if it is technically superior. It would be like buying a Mondeo over a 159.

Re: Nissan GT-R

Sub-Zero. Will single handedly change the future of supercars. Porsche et all will have to rethink their game, because the big nissan is faster, cheaper, and more useable than any other 'super' out there.

Bigfoot, sorry, you're wrong. People will look back on the GT-R as a milestone in engineering and motoring design.

It's very, very nearly perfect

Re: Nissan GT-R

Check the interior shot.

For being Japan's supercar, the interior looks so old skool Japanese still.

Can't believe that it must really be a cultural thing to create an auto interior so boring and devoid of character.

Great car though nevertheless.

Re: Nissan GT-R

Agreeing with HSTDriver, isn't like the E-Type for the Noughties?

All that Exotic Car high performance, but half the price?

Re: Nissan GT-R

I'm an Alfa man through and through, but this car is just too cool... everything in it is perfect from the electronic gauges, twin turbo v6, rims, dual clutch transmission, price tag, i mean, never thought i would say this about any japanese car, but this is better bang for buck than anything Ferrari, Maserati, TVR, Aston, Porsche, Mercedes, or any other sports car manufacturers have on offer + it's whipped the 997 911 turbo's time around the Nurburgring....(7 minutes 38 Seconds)

+ it's the only car that's given Jeremy Clarkson a Stiff Neck... on Top Gear...

All Skylines from the R32, R33, R34 and now this one are plain and simple wicked machines.. the only regret for me is that they dropped the howling RB25DET and RB26DETT motors.... in my opinion the probably the best straight 6 motors ever made...

Re: Nissan GT-R

I'm mildly shocked to find me and HST in agreement over a car on the cool wall!

Sub zero.

Partly because it has a Nissan badge! This thing is so supremely well made and so massively competent that it gets cooler and cooler the closer it gets to a supercar. And you know you could use it every single day, shopping, commuting, motorways and trackdays - how cool is that?

It is an absolute performance bargain. Not that I can afford it!

The interior isn't stunning but that's not the point.

And I also disagree that it will be forgotten. Like all special cars of their time it will be a future classic.

Sub zero. No doubt about it.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Re: Nissan GT-R

Taped up at the Festival of Speed in 2007?

The straight six went as the layout and the turbos got in the way of the steering for LHD.

New V6 means that they can make it in LHD and RHD

Never thought of that actually, very valid point, cos here in Dubai, the guys convert them to LHD then use Maxima Dashboards inside, apparently exact fit, however, they end up with all sorts of steering problems... now that you mentioned it... it all makes sense..

Still like the noise of the straight six better though...

Re: Nissan GT-R

A bit like the Ultima GTR, it's amazingly fast but the chicks wouldn't dig it. I can see the merits of all the gizmos, gadgets and Gran Turismo gamer infocentre, it's all well and good having g-force-o-mometers and elevnty million readouts and dials but that doesn't do anything for style, luxury and coolness. Kristin Scott Thomas wouldn't give a rats behind how many G's she's pulling in the passenger seat on her way back from being wined and dined.

I bet all the mobile phone'esque flashy graphics would look super mega cool if you were 7. I'm a 7 year old boy inside and love all that kind of stuff but it wouldn't make me cool to bring my latest Nurbugring printout from an onboard data logger to a dinner party. An amazing achievement of technology and engineering but just not that cool I'm afraid.
