Re: BMW E30 M3 Coupe

I'm sorry, I know it's a Beemer, but this is a seriously cool car.

I have always, always wanted one - an E30 2.5 was one of my first cars in university, and I loved it.

It's on my list of cars to own before I die (although they are like hen's teeth now)

Re: BMW E30 M3 Coupe

BMW's arent cool, unless, it seems, they are at least 20 years old. It's funny how prejudices are so easily forgotten when the old grey matter flicks on the nostalgia switch and plays familiar music into our ears from a bygone era when Rick Astley was worshipped like a God, Milli Vanilli were faking records, and cars were nothing more than motorised metal shoeboxes on wheels with interiors so dreary they could have been from the decade before, and instruments so basic they almost serve no purpose at all.

It's a funny old world. I can remember all those things and i can think of nothing worse than reliving those times all over again. Maybe my nostalgia switch is faulty, or maybe i can remember them better than most and am able to see through the fog of lies that it presents.

Re: BMW E30 M3 Coupe

Very cool.

CAR Magazine did an article on going to Germany to buy one in 97/98.

I don't think they ever mentioned it ever again. I guess it was a lemon and after a trip to Munich Legends decided to get shot?

Re: BMW E30 M3 Coupe

100% sub zero, nothing comes close IMO, even today.

a good std original 2.3 M3 may not be rapid on a straight but show it some bends and it will leave many standing with their mouths open, and on a track, well its a blinding car.

Re: BMW E30 M3 Coupe

Sub-Zero, not for what it was (although that would probably make sub-zero status on its own) but for what it started.

The M3 badge is the mark of a real, bona-fide legend that even still today, stands head and shoulders above it's rivals.

Anyway, it is cool.

Not as cool as an M2 though. Take the engine and box from one of these M3s and it can be shoehorned into an 2002. There are a few about - real sleepers. I wanted to have it done to my old classic 02 a few years back but couldn't afford it.

There was one of these on eBay a few months back, with a 3.8 litre straight 6 M5 engine and tranny in it, making 360bhp! I think it went for about ten grand

M5 engine in wow, I know Alpina did the B6s with a 3.5 straight six in (reworked to 260bhp) and that was a flyer.
