Re: Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
This car changed the way modern supercars are made. So far ahead of it's time it's ridiculous.
Sad to see chavs beginning to get hold of them now though

Technology for technology's sake ... where's the heart ?
The streets of Wellington are filled with bogans driving this sort of thing ... quite depressing what herd mentality does.

Re: Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
Great performance - but as they said on Top Gear once; the night club owner would have a Jag XK whereas the bouncer would have the Skyline - uncool

Re: Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
Sorry, its not a cool car.
But stop putting down the owners, visit a Skyline owners club and the owners will be exactly the same type of people that own Alfas.

Have to love that engine but the Barry Boy wing comes as standard.
Decidedly not cool but pretty exciting to travel in, I'd venture.

Re: Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
Many years ago I saw one of these in a really deep metallic Aubergine colour, and promised myself there and then that I would have one some day.
Think I've grown out of it.
Maybe just about retains cool status for it's ability. But it's only the fact that it's far more rare which stops it falling into the same 'drove it on my playstation so I got one in real life' category as the Impreza and Evo, both of which are horrendously uncool because of that.
I'll vote cool, but nostalgia is possibly making me kinder than I would otherwise be.

Re: Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
I think it just about clings onto cool status due to its ability, rarity and chunky good looks, albeit they look a bit old hat now.
The used buyers now are probably dragging it into uncool waters. Whenever you saw one on the road in the past they were mint and inevitably driven with restraint - nothing to prove. Not quite the case now in too many instances.

You have to remember that the dash "Hewn from a block of vulgalour" etc are part of the reason it is cool. Polar bears parts for me!

Re: Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
I remember these cars being only for the rich and successful. It was as rare to see a Skyline cruising the streets as it was a Ferrari. They were cool and every boy dreamed of owning one. Well i did anyway. Now though they are everywhere. Boy racers thrash them around my streets and 'barry' them up with over-loud exhausts and crazy sound systems as their friends follow in their Saxo's and Corsa's. Hence, they are not cool anymore. Maybe one day they will regain their former glory and rejoin the Supra which has managed to hold on to it's own credibility. So far at least anyway.

In its defence, very few chavs have genuine GT-R's.
Most of them have low spec single turbo models with bodykits.
