Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
Like the idea but 8.3 secs for a 1.6 in such a small car seems slow.
So, uncool for having the badge and not the substance.

Normally small hot hatches are the very essence of cool, but this 'un doesn't quite cut it for me.
Uncool. Just.

Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
That's why I didn't call this one a "hot" hatch, but a "warm" one.

Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
I actually really like that car. And that's coming from a VW hater... It's tiny and very purposeful. Probably the closest thing to a mk.1 GTI..

Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
It's utterly, unredeemably dull.
What on earth is the point of a hot (or even warm) hatch which is dull?
Seriously uncool.
I can see why someone of a certain (boring in my opinion) frame of mind might pick a Lupo over a 500 say, but someone who would want an interesting car buying something like this? Want their head examining.

Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
it's meant to be an absolute scream to drive.
it looks innocuous, but has potential. A bit like a tiger cub. Cute and inoffensive to look at...but watch for the claws. Oh, and the very sharp teeth.
It was a bonkers moment of product inspiration at a time when VAG was going through one of its duller periods.
it's not trying to be even remotely cool, trendy, fashionable or of its time. Which immediately makes it ice cool.
It's a great joke. Take something as harmless as a Lupo. And lace it with iconic GTi status, based on sound principles; light weight car, big engine, tight handling.
It's off the scale cool, but it was cruelly shoved out of the limelight by more shouty-shouty small cars. That probably aren't nearly as much fun. Or as cool.
My shout? Mk1 and Mk2 Golf GTis are cool. The Polo GTis are not cool. The Lupo GTi is very, very, very cool.
An aside - I see a silver Lupo GTi every morning, driven by a lady of, shall we say, 'advancing years'; and by jimny you should see how she beams away as she whips that little GTi along! A speeding pensioner in a hot hatch, is as incongruous as a whopping engine in a Lupo. But both make me grin.
It's cool. :-)
Even in the darkest hour, love comes shining through.
Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
Its that last paragraph Scudetto that makes it sooooo uncool. She's probably thinking 'If only they made a Honda Jazz GTi'
absolutely uncool (if it hadn't been a GTi I could see the coolness)

Re: Volkswagen Lupo GTI
noooooo! don't you get it bud? yes, she could have bought a Jazz, like all people of a certain age. but she chose a car just as compact as a jazz (yawn), just as cheap to run (yawn), yet drives like a tiger on its way to lunch.
A love of the fun stuff in life is is the coolest thing of all, no matter how old you are.

Perhaps in light of your own car you are a little biased.
P.S. The lights spoil it big time.
