Re: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
People will like this because of it's retro look. It's engine's in the back like a sports car too. It has a fancy front grill, it's steering wheel is on the wrong side and it has large white-wall tyres. But even parking it near a beetle cannot undo the calamitous damage that the styling director did in the boardroom. And every house you drive past will make you the most unpopular person on earth as its noisy engine rattles loose their knick-knacks and sends precious crockery falling to the floor.

Re: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
Great exterior styling. as is common with older cars, the interior lets them down.
Still cool though.

Not for me, it has a sinister feel about it.

Not one of my personal favourites but in classic car and VW circles they are as sub zero as it gets (especially in white )

Don't like it anyways. But it can still be cool.

And if I'm not mistaken US owned firms helped build VWs during the war.

Re: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
They are probably the only car I would go for in front of an Alfa. I love 'em. Its all about the styling though as the stock engine couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding (plenty of tuning mods available though!).
You need to see a good one in the flesh - they are tiny and the propotions seem to work much better in real life than in photographs.

Re: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
A VW? Engine in the back?
I really don't get them - that's not to say that it ain't cool!
It's exclusivity, overall visual appeal and the fact it was designed by an Italian swings a favourable from me!
Coupe not convertible

I don't really like them and I believe they drive with all the finesse of a week old cucumber sandwich but it looks just about cool.

Re: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
Undeniably pretty.
But it's still a Beetle underneath with all that means - it's based on the cheapest car it was possible to make, it has an engine which sounds like a lawnmower, but produces less power. It's noisy and slow.
Uncool I'm afraid. The looks save it from being seriously uncool, like the terrible, terrible abortion of a car which people unaccountably gush over which is the Beetle.

Oh - did I mention that it's named after a hairdryer, which fails to do it any favours?

Re: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
My friend has a go-kart with more power than that!
(Granted its a 125cc liquid cooled 2 stroke engine with what we think is a 5 speed gearbox (never did get fast enough to know whether there is a 6th gear or not), and the bhp / ton ratio is huge.
But i still think its cool - they do look very very good in the flesh (or metal rather)
