Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
They are quite bland in the flesh, nothing to look twice at and those stats don't look particularly brilliant either, coudln;t they at least get it somewhere near 200bhp?

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
Thirsty and slow is one way to describe the 2.7
I had a drive in one that belongs to someone I work with. It was an auto and it reminded me of a Rover sterling I owned some years ago. The performance was similar although the Hyundai obviously handled better.
The guy also reckons he gets about 20mpg from it.
It does look ok from some angles, but I wouldn't call it cool.

I like the look of them, but considering the stats I'd never own one, you're better off with a GTV TS, it's quicker,

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
I was in a Hyundai dealership with my father in law when he picked up his new Accent a couple of years ago, I saw the 2.7 V6 and (not knowing the performance) remarked 'that would probably give my 200SX a good run for it's money'
The smarmy salesman overheard and said 'I think you'll find it'll have no trouble in leaving your old Nissan in its wake, sir'
When I got home I checked out the Hyundai's performance figures and was amazed at how poor they were. Was very tempted to go back and offer the bloke a little wager on a drag race

Nice looking car only let down by the badge on the rear that says "Hyundai".

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
see one everyday in red parked close to my Alfa. It does look ok though, not great not bad. No doubt the specs are a let down, but for the price (atleast here in Dubai) its quite a good car. Its for people who want the sporty coupe looks at a low price.
Not to mention that badge is a let down aswell. Hyundai are really improving their products but there is still some time for the image to develop.

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
I had to vote cool on this one. I think what's holding back the Coupe is the badge. If that car had a different one on the front i think it would be more widely regarded as a good, cheap, sporty motor. I had a Hyundai once, Accent 1.3 (no laughing) and it was as reliable as rain in the british summer. Went well too considering it was only 1.3, but the styling was a little . I think Hyundai are getting there though with this.

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
Guy's, cheap, or good value for money if you prefer. Pretty good build quality. Not too bad appearance wise. Average performer. Not much more to say, other than I doubt I would buy one. Did try one at Millbrook a few years ago, and thought at the time it felt a pretty solid motorcar. :

No matter how good it is it is still a Hyundai
and they won't be cool for at least another
10-15 years.

its an ok alternative to a tt or GT for people with a much lower bank balance, not cool in any way shape or form.

2.7 V6 to give 172bhp? You're better off remapping a diesel GT

Not bad, but not cool either. Sat in one a while ago and they are seriously designed for midgets... I'm only about 6ft and I didn't have any headroom at all.

That output from a V6 is laughable. Preferred the look of the previous model too.

A mate of mine once considered one of these abominations, citing "Ferrari looks, Ford prices". I nearly wet myself (well actually, I think I might have).

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
I have a Coupe S111 in 2.0 guise as my everday car. I agree with the above I suppose they are a bit naff with a Ford Capri image but they are sooo reliable & comfy and because I do 3k miles a month this is important to me ... plus I think they look great as well (apart from one I saw in canary yellow ).I only ever go under the bonnet to check the oil & it hardly uses a drop between services.
I also had the earlier one before the S111 for 50k and it never missed a beat. Throw in a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty & for a self-financed sales reps car you can't beat it. BUT it ain't no Alfa believe me! I use to have a 156 2.0 TS (before it blew up on the M6 ...) and it's totally gutless compared to the Alfa with no feel or connection with the driver. I thought about the V6 version but the Hyundai salesman said there isn't much in it performace wise against the 2.0 plus it's a lot thirstier.
I've no regrets in getting it & would recommend one to anyone .... but if you want a bit of fun & soul look elsewhere !

Re: Hyndai Coupe SIII
I once read (it may have even been here in AO) that Hyundai downtuned their engines to be able to give the 5 year warranty they offer.
This particular car would be cool if the engine was up to the challenge, which is not. It's output is laughable to say the least. It reminds me of the Toyota Paseo. A sheep in wolf's clothing.

Just think, had those mirrors held more fascination for me, I'd never have registered here, and probably never have got the Fiat Coupe or the Alfa GTA either. Would never have become an internet forum addict, probably would never have got the Aston Martin for my wedding, as I wouldn't have thought of it. Undoubtedly wouldn't be about to drive 3000 miles around Europe, for much the same reason.
It's a funny world, that such a seemingly small decision could probably have made such differences to my life, isn't it?
My God. If I'd bought a Paseo, and moved on from that, I'd probably be in a crappy V6 Hyundai Coupe now
