Wax then sealant?
Hi All
Whilst cleaning I remembered a few years ago whilst in the Guards the whole boot bulling process
Burning down and beeswaxing whilst full of sand to avoid shrinkage.
Then a very long time making little circles whilst misting with water.
Now my point is on a warm and sunny day you could tell who hadnt used the devils-bial
Amway as a sealant because they would go dull after a while.
So should I put the sealant...gloss protection, on after waxing?
What do you think

if you're going to use both: sealant, then wax.

Always sealant first.
Wax is a sacrificial layer that wears off. The sealant bonds to the surface.

So it wouldnt lock that finish in?
I think I might move over to sealant then. Ive recently got some of poorboys black-hole and initially am impressed with the shine so use that then sealant or other way round.Thanks.

no. the sealant needs something to latch onto ie the paint. that's why they're durable.
you can wax over the top of a sealant to add a bit of extra depth if you like but it is really a bit ott.
i was always under the impression that if you glaze (black hole), then a sealant wouldn't lock all your gloss in and you'd be best off waxing after a glaze.
springbok knows what he's talking about, he'll put you right.

what colour is your car? if it's white: i'd go with werkstat or zaino. if it's silver: i'd put some finish kare fk1000p on it.

the finish kare shampoo is real good too. makes your paintwork look like it's freshly waxed, after every wash.
in the winter mine wears fk sealant and i use the shapoo and qd. keeps the salt off, also got it on the alloys too.

Mine is Atlantico blue.
I'm thinking fk 1000p for the winter as it's hard wearing, prob good for the wheels too.
Never tried it, but from what I gather the finish isn't the best?

An alternative for the sealant wax thing would be the blackfires kit. It consists of a gloss enhancing polish (glaze), sealant (all finish paint protection), wax (midnight sun), and a spray sealant. Each contains the same polymer meaning that you can use the spray sealant over the wax without bonding issues. This is my fave set of products by far, each is incredibly easy to use on their own and very durable but as a set it is outstanding. Afpp is by far the best sealant I have used. Hth

Hi Matt and friends,
1) My Brera is currently covered in layer after layer of Autoglym HD wax and Aqua wax and kept in a garage. It looks really good and washes easily. Would you recomend starting over with the Blackfires kit, i.e. polish, sealant, wax and deep gloss spray? Or, as there are so many layers of wax on the car already, should I leave it as is? I guess the question is, how much better is it than a well maintained Autoglym finish?
2) We're about to get a new car for the wife - a black Kuga (yes, yes I know it's not an Alfa...) The aim is not to make this car super shiny, but to keep the black paint as clean and low maintenance as possible (because of course black is hard to maintain). I'm thinking about using Blackfire sealant on the Kuga. If I use Blackfire as a sealant can I cover it in a couple of layers of AG HD Wax topped up by Aquawax? Would this work or would you recommend only using the Blackfire Wax and gloss spray?
Cheers all for your time.

1) if it's covered in a long lasting wax, leave it till it's warn off, then start again with the ag boys
2) i normally keep to the same manufacturer, so if you're going down the blackfire road, keep to that.
obviously if money is no object Car Care Kits & Gift Ideas | Car Care & Detailing Products go for it. but i'd stick to the ag stuff, till it's run out. afterall, you know how to use the products and what a good finish you can get with them.

That's good advice Jim. I'll stick to AG for the Brera, there are so many layers on it and it does naff all miles, sitting comfy in a garage most of the time.
*Edit*
I see that Autoglym do a sealant, Extra Gloss Protection. I'm guessing I should put this on the new car after treating with super resin polish, and before the HD Wax goes on. I believe that's the right order.
For the Brera, will the EGP bond on top of all the existing layers of HD (carnauba-based) wax? My understanding is that sealant won't bond on to wax, but EGP claims to be made of wax and resin... any ideas people?
