Quick clean

Never get much time at the weekend but I blitzed the car with my new autoglym products, wash with autoglym shampoo, quick clay of the 'worst bits', SRP all over and Extra Gloss Protection over the bonnet just to 'see what it's like' all in 1.5 hours. I know I should have spent longer but with kids, family and work that's all I had

I must say it does look good, proper products really make a difference!

Now I put some extra gloss protection on the bonnet, forgetting I was going to do another coat or two of SRP tomorrow, am I going to have to reclay the bonnet and start again or can I go over the EGP?

SRP will take off the top coat. Don't overdo it with SRP though. Once you have it looking right get a layer or two of wax on and leave it like that. SRP will remove paint Wax won't.

Paintwork on my GTV is poor to say the least (well she is 14 years old!) swirls over everywhere, scratches (shalllow and deep) on every panel, well over 100 stonechips on the bonnet and peeling lacquer on the back quarter.

Whoever owned her before must have cleaned her with wire wool followed up by throwing stones at the bonnet for good measure

I'm aiming for looks good at a distance (because close up the damage is just too obvious).

You would need to go competely OTT for SRP to cause any damage or even remove more than a micron or so of clear coat, its has very little cut and relies on its fillers more than anything for looks

I spent some more time this afternoon polishing and noticed that the bonnet and roof (less so) look like they were painted with hammerite! Consistant over the whole area... Is this something I've done or can fix?

I'm interested in this - the paintwork on my GTV comes up to a beautiful shine, but catch it in the wrong light and there are surface scratches and swirls from the previous owner(s)

AFAIK it would need to have specialist paint correction - I don't know who does it, or how expensive it is. Or as the paint imperfections are so widespread, a full respray. I would love her to look mint, but is a multiple grand paint job worth it on a car with nearly 80k miles. Tough one.

Even less worth it on mine.. 140k on the clock

I spent another 3 ish hours on sunday working a couple more coats of SRP on and finished off properly with the EGP. The difference in the swirls and smaller scratches is amazing. For now I think I'm going to have to put up with 'looks great from over 10 feet away'

In direct contrast to the thread title...

- Washed the car with Autoglym Shampoo and a wool wash mitt twice
- Rinsed with warm water
- Clayed the car with a Mer clay kit
- Applied a coat of Autoglym SRP, then buffed off
- Applied a coat of Autoglym EGP, then buffed off, applied again, buffed off again.
- Used Autoglym glass polish inside and out
- Used Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner (smells amazing)

Wasn't sure whether to put a coat of wax underneath the EGP, but EGP has waxes in anyway

So, the result:

Front
Back
Buffed to perfection - If only the paint was still perfect
