159 / Brera Mudflap Fixings

Not sure this is the correct place for my question.
But seeing that alot of you are interested in preserving the paintwork of your Alfa's, keeping the bodywork as good a new. I wonder if anyone had any thoughts on the following:-

Sometime ago, at great expense from my Alfa Dealer, I bought Genuine Alfa Romeo Front & Rear Mudflap sets for my Gorgeous Carbonio Black 159 Sportswagon.
The rears fitted without too much trouble, but I'm concerned about using the barbed press-on Clips supplied for the Front Mudflaps.
Clearly when using these to secure the Mudflap, they dig into the paint on the flip side to the inside front wing. In a short space of time, this will obviously lead to premeture corrosion around the wheel arch.
Daft when you consider that this is where most of the moisture and dirt collects.

So todate, the Front Mudflaps remain in the plastic bag they came in.
Does anyone have any alternative suggestions on fixing the Original Mudflaps ???

Look forward to hearing from you guys
Cheers

I fitted my front mud flaps to my '60' plate 159 Tuesday night. I found that unlike my previous '58' plate the inner part of the wheel arch where the clips go seemed to have a liner, like a foam between the plastic wheel arch and the wing so hopefully this will lessen any damage to paint in this area.

As an aside, the front ones where a PITA to fit on my Ti as opposed to my Lusso due to the bigger alloys, I still did it without taking the wheels off but if you can take the wheels off (difficult for me to do - I live on a slope)

Yep, the clips can damage the inner part of the arch. The barbs are easily removed. See here http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...-mudflaps.html (Beware if you have front mudflaps)
