Re: I've Never Polished My Car
Use Autoglym Ros. You'll not go far wrong. Used it for ages and really rate it.
Has anyone every seen my cars looking shabby
Thought not
Once you've got it clean & shiny, keep on top of it by washing it every week or so then spraying it with AG's Aquawax (while wet after the final rinse) then drying / buffing it with a decent quality large microfibre cloth.
The stuff is really excellent & bought as the trade product Expresswax, it's good VFM too

Re: I've Never Polished My Car
There's no need to argue over a polish Everyone has differing views on car care & loads of other things. Autoglym does it for me. Always has. The two newest products Aquawax & HD are really excellent for not a lot of money

Simon,
Agree completely. Don't care if Autoglym is not the best on the market - it does the job with my limited time. Would rather buy their gear and spend my money on newer breed of Alfa's and use the time I don't spend detailing actually driving.

I love Autoglym, their 'Bumper Care' green lotion is second to none and really does bring exterior black plastics back to life. I once used some Meguars stuff that supposedly does the same thing, only to come out the next day after it had rained to find black streaks all down my paintwork from where I'd applied it to the black plastics.
I was not best pleased....

Re: I've Never Polished My Car
you gotta laugh ! everyone wants that finish ,but then wants to do it in an hour with some pounland polish or Autoglym, meaning the hour you spent polishing your car is for nothing as it will come off with the weather etc.. as its not been preped, where as a good session on the car , will result in effortless washing and a great finish time after time.
Don't know if Lord Melch has pics of his car on here as that will put all the above arguments to bed ! simply stunning finish ! and one of the reasons i got my Alfa in red after seeing his on other forums and the finish you could achieve with Alfa Red.
i spent hours on mine when i got it but takes minutes to wash once a week ! and comes up like i have waxed it everytime when in fact i have'nt !

Re: I've Never Polished My Car
Ours come up like new on every wash, using Autoglym products that people seem to like to diss
Between polishes, I always use Aquawax (or express wax as it's known in trade form) after the rinse and as part of the drying process. It's low effort, high results and that'll do very nicley for me

Re: I've Never Polished My Car
no its not that people like to diss Autoglym, just that if you use just say the SRP , it has fillers and some cars don't need a polish with fillers, plus it will not last as long as a sealant or wax like 476, i love SPR and use it a lot but never without a coat of sealant on top and a coat of wax.
lots of there range is top dollar but for that perfect finish that will last and sheet water using the watering can technique (which means it almost drys by its self leaving you just a few water droplets to soak up with a drying towel)
I used Autoglym for years and still use some of there products but after trying other products i would never not prep and seal the paintwork and use a top draw LSP, AG SRP is just a single stage in a 4-5 stage process.
Its not just the finished result its the durability you get from sealants and LSP's and the watering can technique after using these products makes for washing your car a sinch ! normally you have loads of water to dry , where as my cars and bikes are almost dry and only need a microfibre to just get the last few droplets of the car "thats the difference.
Autoglym bumper stuff is brill !
Autoglym UDS is no where near as good as 476 !
I also like Autoglym tyre shine as well !
So hope that proves no ones dissing Autoglym, but for paint protection and super tough finish there are better products.

Re: I've Never Polished My Car
OK, another lazy guy asking for detailing help. I'm also guilty of never having polished my bella, trusting it to the shops who didn't always do a good job. It's a black car so scratches and swirls are really visible on it.
So for a newbie, I believe I'll need the following:
1. Car shampoo
2. Clay + detailer
3. Polish
4. Wax (are there worthwhile products combining a polish & wax?)
5. Quick detailer again (can I use the same thing for claying?)
Is this enough?
Thanks!
