Gold Class or Nxt Generation

Hi peeps.

Washed the GT on the weekend with the same shampoo and wax that I use for my mini, meguiars nxt generation.

Not really clued up on the whole detailing thing so would like your advice.

I am a meguiars man myself, tried autoglym on the mini but preferred the results with meguiars.

My question is which shampoo & wax combination should I use. The gold class or the nxt generation stuff. I have asked the meguiars reps at shows before about the differences and which one is best but they never seem to answer the question and just say the nxt generation is newer so must be better. Never used gold class so I can't compare.

All I have heard on the grapevine is something about polymer based shampoo & wax is a bad thing. No idea if what I am using comes in that bracket. I want to get a really nice finish but not go completely overboard on time and price. Don't mind a bit of elbow grease but don't really want to fork out hundreds of pounds.

Your advice would be most appreciated.

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

I prefer to stay clear of AG products, any company that sells a car washing kit complete with sponge says it all for me. Gold class is good enough but available at Halfords etc where they stick on their mark up.I tend to use the concentrate stuff from chemical guys or polished bliss which sells products which are compatible with each other and are far cheaper than high street stores.

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

I think that both NXT and GC shampoo and wax are very good, its just a personal preference.

The Meguiars UK website has a forum where you can ask staff and other members questions about products, which I think is very usefull.

Thanks peeps,

I think I will give their forum a try. It can't hurt. Will also check out the chemical guys and polish bliss. Do you have a website for them at all?

Ref the Gold Class, I have a bottle and to be honest, it gives a very good finish, but that's about it - it's not really durable and to be honest, you get what you pay for.

I use this;

Dodo Juice Carnauba Wax | Buy Dodo Juice Car Wax Online - TheUltimateFinish.co.uk

And this site also has a good Forum;

Clean Your Car - car care products UK

The 2.0 is the new NXT range wax, it will give better results and lasting protection than the GC or older NXT wax.

Not as long as a hard wax though.

It is very very good for a liquid though, and more of a sealant than a wax........but were talking about GC and NXT stuff here anyway!

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

Autoglym has a lot of good products in its range, i've got plenty in my cleaning collection ........ but some are a bit old school now as far as alot of the new cleaning/detailing products go these days.

I'm an Autoglym fan. I use the amazing Aquawax after each wash and I've just switched to AG HD wax which is fantastic too. Being ultra easy to use is also a bonus!

It's poor, short lived and pricey lived in comparisson to a "premium brand" for not that much more money.

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

If you are a Meguiars man then stick to Meguiars. The trouble with the whole detailing thing is that "the grass is always greener".

People are always looking for the better and better product.

I am not sure from your post if you were referring to GC vs NXT in relation to Shampoos or the whole range?

You really can't go wrong with NXT 2.0 wax. It's an excellent all round product.

Yeah I was talking about the whole range really. I think I will buy some GC and see what the results are like. I read some of the forums on the meguiars site and basically I came up with the conclusion that it is down to personal choice.

Nxt is basically completely synthetic and isn't technically a wax as it doesn't contain wax but is a sealant for your paint against contaminants. Gold class has some polishing aspects to it but probably won't last as long and if you have dark paint will give a deeper glossier finish due to the oils it contains. Well that's the way I took it.

Going to give the GT the crystal 3 step first so I get a really good finish. Have a few blemishes that I would like to get out.

Cheers for your replies.

I have fresh paint on the rear end after some accident repairs, is there anything I should be aware of or products I shouldn't use for a period?

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

Sounds like a good plan, but your better using the nxt or gc wax instead of the step 3 wax though.
Your right about the Nxt but it is an all in one product, it will polish, clean and seal.....mostly just a great sealer last stage product though

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

I think I will use the stage 3 wax and straight after use the GC wax. Can't have too much protection in my eyes . Hopefully the are compatible and won't leave any adverse effects like clouding .

Re: Gold Class or Nxt Generation

Yeah all megs stuff should be fine together......cloudyness can sometimes be caused by just applying too much product.
