Black paint.

After washing my car i noticed lots of swirls minor scratches and overspray, so i have decided to give it a damm good clean.I am doing one panel at a time and it will probably take me a week or so before it's finished.I have started by using 9 micron discs to flat the paint removing any orange peel tar,and overspray etc and leaving a smooth flat surface..Next using a 5" air polisher i am using poorboys ssr2 to remove all the 9 micron sanding marks. After i will use 3m purple polish by hand to remove any hazeing ( an orbital buffer would be better, but i dont have one ).Then after a dam good wash i will wax with Collinite #476s.It should be looking like new after that lot apart from the stone chips

If anyone needs any help with detailing their car, i have found Gareth from Detailed Obsession very helpfull. His prices are also very good.

It'll be good to see the results. Mine needs a good going over, but fancy having a real good stab at it myself.

Re: Black paint.

Well i started with the largest bit How big is that bonnet, and why is that plastic panels are harder to polish than metal ones?.All looked good till the sun decided to show it's face, flatting marks all over the place So polished again using the SSR2 and then used an Orbital buffer ( bought of E-Bay for £13.99 and well worth it) with 3M purple polish. Then as already mentioned used Collinite #476s to finnish.Have some pics only it is pi*@ing down now so pics taken in my garage.Oh and anyone selling a 100 litre compressor, i would be very interested,as my 25L one is hard work

Re: Black paint.

Well it's almost done, which is good cos i've had enough of polishing now I used 2000 wet&dry to remove any orange peel on the body panels.Just need to clean up the rubbers etc now.Although that will be done next time i wash the car.

It's a factory accessory, made by zender - don't think it's currently available, so you'll have to pinch one from an accident damaged vehicle or source second hand.

Re: Black paint.

Looks great ! black is a pain in the arse for swirl marks etc.. have a black X-type and a black R1 as well as my wife's 147 Ti which is red thankfully !

never gone down the wet and dry route, but the finish looks great on yours ! and collinite 476 is bloody great wax ! have used it all this year and rate it above anything else i have used and its durability is outstanding !

i use lambswool mitt and drying towel now, after i seen the damage sponges and shammys can do as far as swirls etc.. and it saves all the hard work again !

i use the 476 on the alloys as well and it works great only ever needing a wash down once a week to remove the dust.

but black looks ace when its done proper !

Cheers Portugues, Luckily i bought my spoiler 2nd hand and for only £70.I was very lucky to find one.Can we see pics of yours once done?

kernowmcrae: Yes, arch liners need a going over.Have some Aerospace 303 on order and will sort out next time i clean the car

Cheers NFN, Yeh swirl marks Still all gone now and hopefully stay that way I also use 476 on the wheels and agree with your comments, it's the best i have used

the only problem is that i live in Portugal...there are very little gtv's here...and you can count with one hand perhaps the number of them with that spoiler!!!

Re: Black paint.

already got my car back...lovely job but e couldn't get all the swirls out...he explained that the previous owner must have polished his car with the machine so the varnish was to thin

so i just used the smooth abrasive and not the medium one...he said that like that ill still have some swirls but don't damage the varnish...

ill send fotos, someday!!!
