Thread count
One for the AO Tech team....
How hard would it be to have the option of hiding ones post count?
Whilst it shows how much involvement we have had with the forum i wonder if there is a risk of it being seen as a status indicator...

Any thing is possible, it could be added its just that how many people would want to hide it? We certainly wouldnt make it mandatory. No one else has commented so lets see how it goes.

It does seem to be a status issue, giving congratulations for reaching 5k..6k....would you congratulate your postman every time he reached the next k letter?????. Or you get slagged for posting in a particular lounge, I didn't realise that some lounges carried different status......
Also dons flameproof suit......

I've never seen the point of a post count.
All that is needed is join date and the number of 'thank you's.
Of course, we'd need a 'thank you' button as well...

I think post counts are only an issue to those who think it is an issue. I don't see any issue with K post threads either, they are no big deal & if anything they manage to create a bit more banter/chat in WOT which is always a good thing Some of us post more than others & some have been here longer than others, so what it's no big deal either way.
I'm not sure what you are on about "get slagged" the following maybe :
I don't see a problem with people being directed to post in the correct lounge as usually this will help them to get more info on their problem or query etc.
It also helps keep the forum more organised & clean & reduce the work load for the MODs hopefully as the OP will learn where to post in future & others will also hopefully take notice also A place for everything, & everything in it's place We were all newbies once & all have had threads moved at some stage, it's no big deal don't take it personally.
I've no idea what you are on about regarding Status in Lounges though

I didn't realise I had taken anything personaly, I was stating my views which I believe I am allowed to do.
The status in lounges comment was in regard to the Introduce Yourself section. I have only been a member for 3 months, my first post was to introduce myself. I had 92 views and 6 replies....that in itself is of no problem to me. When I see a new member I like to reply with a welcome, but it seems that some other members "slag off" these postings as trivial ways of boosting their post count. I personaly would be happy for my post count to not appear, I am not in a competition to be a top poster, and hope that this has somehow given you some idea as to "what I am on about". If I see a post that doesn't make sense to me, I ignore it. If you still don't know what I am on about, please feel free to ignore it, I won't take that personally.....

I think the ability to hide post count is a good idea. And Bobda's one of a 'Thank You' button (which seems very popular on other forums and works very well) is - in my small opinion - an idea very much worth considering.

Why is this an 'issue' for so many?
I vote for the 'hide' option if it will stop the constant moaning
A 'thankyou' option? - what? - then there will be "oh you have more thankyous than me"
As far as I'm concerned, my post count can be reset to zero, as this will in no way affect my involvement on AO

The "don't take it personally" wasn't directed at you, just a general statement regarding the moving of threads by MODS as previously certain others took his personally & started needlessly ranting about the moves & the MODs.
The Intro Section has been discussed recently in a thread, I can't recall where though.
Ignoring is always an option, especially in IPT

Heck folks, I feel terrible now!
I did a quick thread after Kurzon made a comment which was intended to be funny and now this.
Can we just leave things alone? All of it?
It's great here, post tarts and all, lets not spoil it.
I know I might not have caused this but it is enough to make me feel guilty, and I've only just coughed up to join!
Like the idea of a "Thank you" btw

I'm sure AO won't agree
On the issue of a "Thank You" button, I think that makes other forums look very messy & interrupts the flow when seeing loads of usernames under each post in the "Thank you section"
I think the Report Button is a far better alternative

Think were on the same page now David P....
On the whole, I have found AO friendly, informative and amusing, the moving of threads does keep the place tidy and I find the forum search very easy to understand and use.

I like having my post count.
A daily reminder of how many hours Ive spent on here!
Its also an indicator, rightly or wrongly, of experience and workings of this site - useful for noobs asking questions and perhaps unsure otherwise.

Things must be slow on the moaning front this month, if people are that bothered by their post count DONT POST, that way you wont have the indignity of a high post count. I use a number of internet forums and this one is without doubt the only one that I have come across that has people who are jealous and bothered by someones high post count, of course that usually changes once their post count gets a bit higher and then its suddenly ok, my advice would be to concentrate on something that actually matters and take a chill pill.

Maybe we are looking at this the WRONG way. Perhaps the PostCount intimidated need a feature to switch off all post counters while browsing and viewing pages
I'm not bothered by my post count (quite possibly the 76th time I've said that in my time here) as long as I can access my past posts. If this is to be added to the "do list" I'd imagine it to be a low priority.
As for the "Thankyou" thing, didn't we have one of those and people started abusing it by thanking "buddies" for anything? Another counter to bemoaned at as stated earlier? Didn't it cause code issues and a slowing down of the forum or even crashes? Although maybe the robustness of AO code now might be able to cope with such a feature but the former issue will still need to be addressed.
Now where's that chill pill
