Re: Duplicate accounts and traders - Beware

While I am firm believer in innocent until proven guilty, if conclusive evidence exists, I would want to be warned. If they engage in underhanded tactics on-line who is to say they will not do so in their other activities putting our money, time and in the worst case, safety at risk.

Pud, I doubt this is the issue we are concerned with. I log on from my home Mac or work PC but always it is as me using my account.

Go back over Ian's example and it is clearly deliberate deception. That isn't good enough and while I respect Alfafamily's sense of fair play in wanting to give a warning, this is a private club (so to speak) so common sense and draconian measures can sit cosily together in a way not legally possible IRL.

Ian, Perhaps you could allow a few days for the rogue traders to admit their transgressions and apologise to you before sending them to the guillotine.

Re: Duplicate accounts and traders - Beware

Rogue Traders might be a good Aussie band, but they should be warned (not immediately banned). I signed up to this forum the morning we were getting our Alfa. My motivation was to see about insurance, maintence and generally spread the love of owning a car which has a following. I am interested in learning mechanics and have fallen head over heels with a '72 chunky Alfa (I know this is vague but not having the money avaliable means I must love her from a distance at present) Please don't stop recommendations, but it sounds like the not having 2 aliases, emails etc does the trick to some degree, I'm not an expert, but ... (I'm sure that line might come back to haunt me) as on owner, I could easily fall down a naive trap and follow a recommendation or blatent plug of dubious origin. The dealer we bought from was wonderful, he introduced me to the site and I will never look back. Thank you xxx

But come on, admit it, you'd like to know who Ian is talking about, right?
I know Mr Bear, but I thiought other's may well think the same thing. And yes, I am nosey enough to want to know, but I also think there's a ligitimate reason for AOers to know. Same as the 'Witch Hunt' thing, I had thought that first before considering the scenario properly, but decided that it wasn't the case.
I don't think this will discourage any legit AOer from posting, after all most of the traders on here are quite happy to let us know thery are who they say they are and the 'run'o'the'mill' members have nothing to fear as they don't fall in to this catagory. I don't think posting from a dealer under our own account is that much of an issue, and Ian and the guys will, no doubt, only become suspicious if that was a regular occurance, then we're in to a whol diffent issue, if people were deliberatly signing on as someone else.

It will be a shocker, we are waiting on respnses before we shame. In any case we would not be posting any private or personal data about the business(s) / AO account holder(s) but we will post the usernames and point you to some of the posts. Its quite obvious what is going on from there.

We must stop these dishonest actions, this is not what we made this website for!

I don't think thats true Ned. But the fact that you think that definitely highlights the need for the offenders to be named.
