The AO car's poll - CLOSED

I have a feeling that I might wish I never asked this question, but what happened to the AO car's poll? I logged on this morning and it was there, but now its disappeared in a not too disimilar manner to the 155 lounge

Re: The AO car's poll

You can tell a lot about a Forum from the thread Statistics.

I think AO can be proud of its Thread percentage split, which clearly shows that this forum is very much oriented towards Technical and General Alfa related threads. There is a healty split between serious Alfa related isues and "other stuff" with the vast majority of threads leaning towards issues relating to owning and living with an Alfa Romeo.

Of course the opposite type of Alfa oriented Forum or should i say wannabe Alfa related forum, - would be a Forum, which based on its thread statistics appears to be mainly about "off topic" and "for sale" threads. A forum where the total number of Technical threads is out gunned by four to one against "for sale" threads.

I am not saying people dont have the right to post in whatever section they like, but i am saying that I know which Forum i would be proud to be a member of, and which forum appears to consist of a group of people only capable of talking Alfa when they put it up for sale.

It's also possible to make the mistake of assuming you can accurately pass judgement on a forum purely by looking at thread statistics. I'm not saying people don't have the right to judge forums based on the criteria they decide is adequate but i'm proud to be the type of person who likes experience something before unnecessarily condemning it for whatever reason, as opposed to someone who needlessly mouths off about something they don't understand.

Re: The AO car's poll

I agree its a shame that the poll can't continue; but a number of the people who's cars were nominated did say they wouldn't want to take part next year because what had happened

Maybe if people would like the poll to be reinstated they could say so here or PM a mod. But to be honest I feel vey sorry for Selespeed - he obviously put a lot of work into it and was very enthusiastic about it and keen to see it was as fair as possible to everyone

Re: The AO car's poll

I totally agree with you Kevin.

As someone who had been nominated I was really sad to see it close. I knew that I wasn't going to win, but it was nice to check and see how I was doing. I'd quite happily take part next year if it was reinstated, although I'm realistic enough to know that I probably won't be so lucky to be nominated and get through the early rounds next time.

I too feel sorry for Selespeed as I agree he put a lot of effort into it..something he didn't have to do. I would have liked the poll to stay open, as much so the effort he had put in wasn't wasted, as for any other reason, but I had a quick look at the thread this morning and a lot of unnecessary and nasty things were being said, so I think in hindsight he did the only thing he could

Lets hope everyone can put this behind them now and move on
