Edited: How does Reputation work?

I noticed some of you asked about the reputation system.

In this thread I will try to explain about the reputation system to try to answer most questions Ive seen posted.

How does it work?

You can give out positive or negative reputation against a member with regard to their posts, quality and helpfulness. When you hit that reputation button , a pop up screen appears. Type in your comment and hit the button “add to reputation” You have given reputation to that user.

How many point do I have?

Most of you will start off with ten reputation points. See that as a welcome reputation from the AO staff. When you go to your userCP/Profile for classic users, you can scroll down on the first page & see the latest rep points received from ??? and your total amount of rep points. If you see another colour other than red or green, that rep was probably from a member with less than 50 posts (that reputation will not count.)

When will I get my next rep image?

For each 100 reputation points you get an extra rep image until you are at 500 then it takes 200 point to get the next rep image and so on.

You start with one rep image. 0-100 is that first one.

You reach the next rep image at:

2 images 100
3 images 200
4 images 300
5 images 400
6 images 500
7 images 700
8 images 900
9 images 1100
10 images 1300
11 images 1500

How many points do I give out?

When you have made 50 posts you can only then give out one point.
For each 10000 posts you get 1 point altering power.
For each 365 days after registering you get 1 point altering power.

When does my “status” change?

When you move your mouse cursor over a members reputation images you see the reputation status. For example: Alfaowner is a name known to all.

It changes when you have the following points:
User is on a distinguished road 10
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
User is a jewel in the rough 250
User is just really nice 350
User is a glorious beacon of light 450
User is a name known to all 550
User is a splendid one to behold 650
User has much to be proud of 1000
User has a brilliant future 1500
User has a reputation beyond repute 2000

Open Threads Limit
Posts in open threads, that are older than 90 days, cannot be given reputation.

Closed Threads Limit
Posts in closed threads, that are older than 90 days, cannot be given reputation.

Require Reputation Comment
ALL members including Mods and Admins must leave a comment in order to give others reputation

Reputation Power Cap
We have set a life time maximum reputation giving power of 2000, this means you can give up to 2000 reputations clicks ever, so make them last only give reputation where it really is needed. This is for any member except Admins and Mods.

Some other notes:
You can give 15 member reputation each 24 hours.
You have to give 30 other members reputation before hitting the same member again.

Hope this helps understanding the reputation system. I just hope this doesn't confuse, its really dead simple.

Re: How does Reputation work?

Oh yeah, and for every click you get from an admin, you get x2 repuation points So if you get positive clicks from us, its good ! Negative clicks are not so good.

Re: How does Reputation work?

additions as listed at top of page also!

Taken on board fears, worries and controversial comments about reputation and we have tweaked the rep system more to suit our forums.

I hope these extra parameters will help quash the race to be top rep, this has to be a natural reputation or whats the point!

Enjoy the board, we are still working on bits for you all. Just spread the word about us if you like what we do here!
