Log in? - RESOLVED

Every time I go away from AO and come back, I have to re log-in. Does this suggest it's not setting cookies properly?

Re: Log in?

Old cookies can cause this. Clear all your cookies (or at least the AO ones ) and your problems should be solved.

Re: Log in?

if you log in via the 'reply' button, on there it lets you stay in (by ticking the box I think).
I had to clear all my cookies before I could log on, otherwise it wouldn't let me in.

Why do I have to log in each time

...the site appears to be better than before, certainly in the respect of being able to post better, large photos, BUT why is it we have to log in each time we enter the site? The old site stored our information in our cookies...does this one not?

Re: Log in?

I've got the same problem. I've never had to clear cookies before - is this related to something new that was done to the site over the past few days?

The login details are stored in a cookie and everytime you visit AO those details are read from and written to that cookie.

Due to the new software the content of the cookie has changed. Everytime you visit AO the cookie doesn't have the details the new version of the software expects (but the details the old version of the software would expect).

This is why you have to remove old cookies (only once). When you visit us the next time a brand new cookie will be placed and the login problems are over from that moment on.

Instructions to remove cookies:
Internet Explorer
Leave AlfaOwner.com ( only for a short moment )
Open the 'Tools' menu in your browser
Select 'Internet options'
Click on the button 'Delete cookies'
Click on 'OK'
Close your browser
Reopen your browser
Visit www.alfaowner.com

Firefox
Leave AlfaOwner.com ( only for a short moment )
Open the 'Tools' menu in your browser
Select 'Options'
Click on the button 'Privacy' in the navigation bar
Click on the tab 'Cookies'
Click on the button 'View cookies'
Select 'alfaowner.com' from the list
Click on the button 'Remove cookies'
Click on the button 'Close'
Close your browser
Reopen your browser
Visit www.alfaowner.com

(a bit more work then with Internet Explorer, but you leave all the other cookies from other site you visited in tact )

IE stores cookies in C:/windows/cookies; you can delete the appropriate cookies there rather than just clearing all of them! (Not that I use IE!)

Yes... delete the existing alfaowner.com cookie, then go back to the forum and an updated cookie will automatically install...

I still can't stay logged in even though I've deleted the cookie. Any more suggestions?

Re: Log in? - RESOLVED

Hi - IE6 and I deleted the Alfaowner.com cookie plus a couple of others with Alfa in them. How many should I be looking for?

Re: Log in? - RESOLVED

Well, its actually good to empty your cookies out once in a while. I know many people that get windows to delete cookies everyime they close the browser window.

If you delete the lot, you will definatley get in okay. But of course, if you visit alot of other websites that use cookies, lets face it, who doesnt anymore??? Those sites will also prompt you for your username and password. If you have deleted all the Alfaowner cookies, you will have no more problems.

Regards,

AO

Re: Log in? - RESOLVED

DON'T FORGET...

Alfaowner needs to be closed when you delete the cookie.
