Re: Did you get a 155er Spam PM? Let us know!

I didn't receive a PM. I was told by email. I'm surprised that someone abused the AO PM system.
So you banned them eh ??? Well they were warned about this kinda thing.
As said before though, I wasn't aware of anybody trying to encourage people to leave this site . I'm dissapointed if that has been said, but I think as a whole, most of the peeps on the 155 site still come on here. I hope some people haven't tried to make some sort of personal battle out of all this because they feel they've been robbed of something. But what can they expect really, this is a FREE site with no subscription charge, so if the reason for the site changes is due to money (amongst other things), then so what ??? Maybe if they were paying for the bandwidth themselves they would think differently.

Like I said......I'm dissapointed there now seems to be a big split

Re: Did you get a 155er Spam PM? Let us know!

I have been watching this unfold and to say I find the overall outcome bewildering is a bit of an understatement...

I haven't been around here for terribly long but I did pick up there were distinct personallity clashes which were always going to come to a head, I still can't believe that it has some to people being banned....

Overall, I reckon I won't be here as much as the people which I have the most in common with are not posting/not able to post here now which should save some precious bandwidth....

Well Ian, thanks for providing a place to "play" but I feel an over reaction has occured and AO will be, and indeed already is, a poorer place following this incident...

Re: Did you get a 155er Spam PM? Let us know!

I'm disappointed by everything here. I thought we where better than that. I've been here from day one, and intend to stay as long as I have an alfa...currently at 3 non running 75's and a Sprint.
Our good nature and good welcomes got us mentioned in many other sites ( in threads not pm's ) Let's keep it that way.
Maybe an apology might help ??

Things should have been done differently.

Can't we just all try to get along .... please

Btw have you seen my signature :Cheese:

Whats so special about the 155 owners anyway. Why can't they use the forum just as every other Alfa owner? Post in the 155 section. Anyway I don't think its any great loss the 155ers were a bunch weirdos anyway.

Re: Did you get a 155er Spam PM? Let us know!

Thanks for the well "reasoned" comment there mate: NOT !

The 155ers are upset because the forums from 155.com were subsumed into Alfaowner at the start of this year and have subsequently been diminished ever since. Ask yourself how you would feel if this happened to the sites such as 156.org and 145.com, thus leaving you nowhere else to go?

I agree that informing 155 owners via PMs was potentially contentious but then so was removing the 155 forums despite requests not to. Ian hasn't helped with his comment at the start of this thread either, which I found dissappointing as I thought he was above such churlish behaviour.

No one has disputed the time, effort and money that Ian puts into Alfaowner but that doesn't mean that all the members are obliged to agree with his decisions. Setting up another forum to replace the one Ian removed isn't the crime of the century, neither is letting people know about it.

I must say fair play to Ian, he could have locked these threads or even removed them, but he has let everyone have their say, however banal (eminence).

I think it is now time for Ian to stop this one way or another.

Ian the ball is in your court.

Re: Did you get a 155er Spam PM? Let us know!

Nigel, You have to realize that it is Ians site and in the end, it's his call... He doesn't have to even ask our opinion... AO is privilege, not right.........
And if the rules say you can not advertise other sites, then it is so!

And the old 155 forum was (AFAIK) running in the same server... which lead to the bandwidth problems, which lead to the forum software change and the merging of the two forums...

Come on it was a tongue in cheek post. A bit jokey. Oh well looks like Marlon doesn't have sense of humour or atleast has not engaged it on this occasion. Lighten up, smile!

What on earth is Woolabra Wonga? I assume some kind of alcholic liquid, which, being a sad teetotaler I would never consume!

And I have to say I agree with Pasi on this one. It is not like we are paying a subscription to this forum and it is Ian's webspace. He can do what ever he likes, get over it and move on. If someone started telling me what I should do with my webspace (and ultimately money) then I would tell them to shove off.

Whilst an owner can make their own choices they have to give their customers what they want otherwise they go away.

The 155ers situation is different for the reasons stated many times above.

None of the 155ers TOLD Ian what to do, all that was said was that we felt it was a bad idea.
And I believe we said to Ian that it's his site and his decision at the end of the day.

Re: Did you get a 155er Spam PM? Let us know!

Is there any chance we can bring this to a close now and get on?

It all started when 155.com was merged. Fair enough. The majority of 155ers wanted it back, but it didn't happen for various reasons. Ian wasn't likely to bring it back anymore than 155'ers were going to accept what had happened gracefully. The upshot is that there is now a new 155 land which really was the only thing that could happen.

It doesn't matter how, why, or who. It exists, and people are using it.

We all now need to move on (come on people, nothing to see here!!). But what's happening is that AO'ers are talking about 155 land and the 155'ers are talking about AO.com!! It's comical. We might as well all be in the same place!

"Alfaowner.com - Are you addicted yet?" - I was for the last 2 1/2" years but.....................enough has been said already - I don't need to add more.

Indeed - I know it's not our site but a little more tolerance would have helped - we are all here afterall because we love Alfas

Yes. I can appreciate that. Are people still banned? There's a lot of 155ers still on here ... which is a good thing by the way. (Especially those with 145 and 156's)!
