Help Let's play another game...

In the "let's play a game " thread bobdabilda asked for a change in the way the post timestamp is shown:
Quote:
Instead of 1 hour ago, or whatever for the post time, can it show the actual time of the post.
Well, I liked the time since post way more... can we have it back??

Thanks

(This is in another thread as I don't want to use my single post in the "let's play a game " thread )

Re: Let's play another game...

I've just been moderated!!!
In the original let's play a game thread. Me! Moderated!
Do they know who they're dealing with?!?!?
That's it, I've changed my mind now, this website is rubbish, and they've done a very poor job of the redesign!!!

Sorry about his btw, I don't thik I've ever had a post removed before, and it amused me.
Oh, and it was un-neccessary twaddle in the post, and whoever removed it was quite right to do so. The swine

Help Re: Let's play another game...

I find it much more usefull to know how long has it been since the last post than counting it from the forums time which is GMT+3 (?) and I can't use my PCs clock as it is in GMT+2 ...
Could it read like: Today, 50 Minutes ago at 16:56
or something like that, then everyone would be happy

Re: Let's play another game...

Hi Azazel, about the unused background that is shown on the left and on the right, you said that changing the tables' fixed widths will screw up the overall design, right? Does this means that the suggestion I made here (New Forum) ( visitors viewing different page according to their screen resolution ) is also out of the discussion? Is it a big pain in the %$% to do such thing ?

Thanks

Yannis

PS: Ah, btw, i voted for the "time ago" mode too.

Re: Let's play another game...

Actually, I voted for the time, but I've since decided I'd be pretty hapy either way, so you can take one vote off the 'today at 8:10' thingy.
Pasi: Forum time is just GMT, not + or - anything, although, if you go to edit options, I think you can change it for yourself.

Pretty much a pain in the ass yeah .

The design has been created specifically for the size of 760pixels, so any wider and it'll take me a while to sort everything out again.

However, if you just wait for some new skins . They'll come soon, but not too soon.

Then why does the clock at the top of the page say:
All times are GMT +3. The time now is 18:30.

I have set the timezone in the options to GMT+2

Warning Re: Let's play another game...

Never mind... I disabled the DST setting and it now shows the correct time

But I still want to use the "50 minutes ago" format

Re: Let's play another game...

I voted for the 'minutes ago' thing BUT i just realised that i'm just glancing at the number to work out how old the last post is, which doesn't work if the time's flipped over to hours.
I think minutes all round would be cool, even if it meant reading 569673 minutes ago.
Failing that, i'm easy. Hell, i'm easy anyway, just don't tell anyone

Re: Let's play another game...

Well, even though I've voted, I figured I would speak up. I like the actual post time, not the so-many-minutes-ago format.

Since I usually surf while working, I just pop in, take a really quick look around and pop out.

When I pop in, I check out the time on the board, and look at when the posts were made in relation to that time. I don't want to have to do the math and calculate how many minutes ago it was since I was last in here, and then try to sort through how many posts were made in that time frame. That's way too complicated for simple, little me.

Idea Re: Let's play another game...

@Toronto: You might want to try the "New Posts" function

Re: Let's play another game...

Pasi,
I tried it and I don't like it. I like to have a look at the full board (which is why this elongated, space-wasting board drives me nuts). I don't like to rely on technology to filter information for me. If I can't do that for myself, I might just as well pack up and go home and declare myself useless.

I agree with you, i prefer the actual time a lot more than xx minutes ago. however the New Posts page is quite useful, i use it a lot, as i do the Quick Reply .... which is G-R-E-A-T

Re: Let's play another game...

Since we're discussing the issue of time, can we PLEASE go back to GMT and get rid of this +2 nonsense?

This is an international board, and it is much easier to figure out times if we have one common base. That way we don't have to worry about who is on daylight savings time and who isn't. And don't tell me everybody is on daylight savings time, because they aren't. Even within my own country we have one province that doesn't observe DST.
--Toronto

OK, I just noticed something strange. When I check the board and I'm not logged in it is GMT+2. When I'm logged in, the time is straight GMT.

Re: Let's play another game...

Tor, if you really want to, I think you can go to your preferences and change the time shown on your screen. Try pressing Quick Links (at the top) and Edit Profile ..

Re: Let's play another game...

Tor, that's because, when you're not logged in, you use the "default" time settings.. you can make your own time settings in the "quick links" menu
People, will you all PLEASE start surfing all the possibilities of this new forum.. you'll be amazed, lazy gits!
j/k BTW )

Re: Let's play another game...

Wim,

I realize that it has to do with being logged in or logged out. It's just that I don't bother to log in unless I want to post something, and since I'm not always in the mood to post -- let's face it I'm not Hugo -- I don't always log in. To make matters worse, there have been times when I've logged in, gone away for a bit, come back, hit "refresh" and discover that I'm no longer logged onto the board.

It was just a request for one common look and feel with regards to the time. I realize it might not be a big thing for the people who are living in whatever time zone GMT+2 is, but for the rest of us, it requires a shift in our perception, and as I keep saying, I'm not that bright and try to avoid mental gymnastics whenever possible.
