Thumbs Up Positive feedback

There've been a lot of threads complaining about various parts of this new forum, and I think that is right. Ian needs to know what isn't liked. However, I think a huge amount of work has gone into this, and I think with all the complaints, Ian and friends are in great danger of being much under-appreciated by us all. Hence this thread.
I know there's a 'forum kicks ass' thread, but that ended up with several complaints, so there's one rule for this thread. Positive only.
There may be people on here who haven't said anything about how they feel about the new forum coz they're quite happy with it. If so, speak. Tell Ian on this thread.
It won't be as useful to them as the complaints thread, but hopefully if they're feeling down, or that the task will never end or never be worth it, they can look and know that it is.

For my part, I love the new forum, looks very modern, and now it's cached, it's quicker. Love the quick reply function.
I'm also very very impressed with how quickly some requests have been responded to: the old smilies, the plan for extra skins, the todays topics button, etc, etc.
So come on: tell everyone what you like about the forum.

Re: Positive feedback

As one of those who criticised some parts,of the new forum yesterday,I`ve come back today and found that all the criticisms have been answered.
I can now say I genuinely like it.Good work Ian and co!

I've done my bit of brown nosing already in various threads, but what the heck: "Good work chaps, and kudos on the quick replies.. you're an example of aftersales sevice ) "

Re: Positive feedback

BTW, I also absolutely LOVE the fact that we've got 'today's posts' AND 'new posts'. The limitation of the todays posts button was that if your last log on was say 10pm the night before, you were in danger of missing out on 2 hours worth of posts, especially posts from our friends down under. With this new system, I can just use 'new posts' the first time I log on in the morning, to catch them, then 'todays' posts' from then on.

Thumbs Up Re: Positive feedback

Its true.

If someone has a bad experience in a shop (for example) they will tell 10 people about it.

If they have a good experience, however, they will only tell, perhaps 2 people about it.

This is what is happening here

A good job has been done IMHO, although my gripe thread is coming up, but it's not a biggie.

Re: Positive feedback

So that's it then? Three people think a good job has been done?
Looks like you were spot on Andy, a couple of hundred people will complain because it's a bit dark, even after they've been told that there'll be extra skins, less than 10 - even counting posts in other threads - will bother to post about all the good points.

Re: Positive feedback

I just want to say thanks, because I know I've made some criticism, but I think is because I loved so much the old forum, and it was a Major change...

But now, everything it's better, and I think almost all of us appreciate the enormous effort you guys are making to make this place as cozy as it was before, so, THANKS

Re: Positive feedback

Feels a lot faster than the old one - excellent!
Addressing directly to forum URL now possible - YES!
Smilies are back - good work!
Today's topics is back - nice!
Same loonies and animals are still posting here - magnificient!
New skins coming - looking forward to that. Could use one for my own face too.
Negative feedback tolerated and replied very well - professional!
System has been up and running without any major breakdowns (I think?) since startup - pure success!

Besides, making a big change for anything that is used by thousands (?) of people, will always generate lot of negative feedback - it's part of the human nature. Most of the complaints I have seen here are actually minor look-and-feel issues - so I would say that everything has went pretty well.
Finally, it's totally impossible to please everybody's taste, especially because some of the people around here have a very bad taste, with whaletale giant spoilers and everything

Since I'm (apparently) an animal, that implies that I'm not a loony.

Thumbs Up Re: Positive feedback

And I want to make a suggestion (not critique), if it's possible, can we loose the square where it says in which part of the "file" we are? I think that's not necessary... And it's a waste of space?

I don't need all this to say where I am: Alfaowner.com > AlfaOwner/Alfa155 Website(s) > Suggestions & Feedback
Positive feedback

And... I don't know if that was done or not, but I think that if we can see our incoming and outgoing PMs in one window, it will be great!

But that's a suggestion only... I've already said I'm starting to love this new forum

Re: Positive feedback

Actually, I really like that square. I don't navigate through the forums at all, I just use tday's topics and new posts, so it's good to know where exactly I am. That way, I know whether I can safely be abusive about 155's or not
Joking guys, like I would...

I think that's beacause he's shy, and he's doesn't like the black color, so he stopped rolling his eyes...

It's because your Internet Explorers cache is too big. Go to Tools > Internet Options... > Delete Files button. This will fix your problem, although I'm not about to do that for mine as I have a lot of pages etc cached.

Re: Positive feedback

Err, I think one of us is missing something here (me?).... I meant that when you saved the animated gif for the smilies from the page you were given it looks like they have been frozen. I get that all the time, they need "re-animating" to work properly....but I don't know how to do it The animations are working on my pages...when they work.

Thumbs Up Re: Positive feedback

Well, I tried connecting to AO from home using my dialup connection and my trusty old Mac.

1. It works with my favourite browser (Safari) - old forum didn't, I had to use Mozilla.

2. It is noticeably faster - and this from first use, so that's impressive, because I found the old forum unacceptably slow from home (I am spoiled by a fast work connection!)

3. Due to the different gamma settings, the grey colour scheme is much more tolerable (ie it is not too dark.)

Keep up the good work, it is appreciated!! (cough... new skins... cough...)
