Re: Eye worm attack (Virus)
Only just noticed this thread and thought I would let you know a little more about it
I work in the IT security industry for a well known AV company. The common conception is this worm (commonly known as Conficker) will cause mayhem today (April 3rd). This maybe just standard media hype very much like the year 2000 scare. The virus has 3 main variants and has been in existence since last november. Most people will not be affected by the latest variant as it targets previously infected computers.
The virus spreads in several ways, over the local area network, by using administrative shares, via USB drives and with the recent version via a peer to peer connection.
Standard advice is to ensure all machine have up to date security patches installed, up to date Av installed, regular scans completed.
If you do get affected disconnect the computer from the network and use one of the several tools available to remove the virus (from all major brands) which are free of charge. Then perform a full scan to ensure it is removed before putting it back on the network
