Searching The Forum Using The 'New Posts' Function

When I search the forum using the 'new posts' function I'm only getting new posts from the last hour rather all new posts since my last visit 13 hours ago at 22.45.

Any idea when this will be fixed? No fun not being able to review the last day's activity.

Re: Searching The Forum Using The 'New Posts' Function

I think it will stay as the last 100 results if I am honest, certainly for a little while anyway because its better to have that than white pages. We have had nearly 40% more traffic over the last 30 days and its hurt our server!
The simple fix is to pop into your profile>Edit Options and right at the very bottom of the page select all the forums that you wish to exclude from the searches such as Off Topic etc...

This will then allow you to have better search results.

Regards,

AO

Re: Searching The Forum Using The 'New Posts' Function

I wonder if its possible to use Google to search AO for new posts, rather than using AO's servers? When I'm searching for a specific thread on AO I use Google rather than AO's search engine as I can keep changing words without having to wait 30 seconds between searches..

Could the same be done with new posts?

I don't know.. I don't think would be easy though. It would be a code-writer's job I think, plus it takes Google almost 24hrs to get threads listed on its searches..

This would help and we have already looked into this, sit tight for hardware, if need be we will code Google in anyway.

If the searches are putting the most strain on your hardware then this will probably be a lot more cost-effective than another server upgrade.

Do Google mind? I suppose servers aren't really an issue for them..

I'm sure Admin is well aware of it, but just in case not, this morning all search functions are returning a DB error, which incidentally is the same as I was getting yesterday when trying to access my sent PM's...

Overload, overload, overload. Board is incapable of coping with traffic, so how are we supposed to advance? Get these old contributing pensioner types, with zilch knowledge, off for starters, they are hardly likely to buy new Alfas! Or are they???

Judging from your "member car" they're hardly likely to buy at all... has your missus not loosened the purse strings yet?

Re: Searching The Forum Using The 'New Posts' Function

Now, you ask those in the know Sunshine.: I was avidly waiting for Lancia to return to the UK. But as that is most unlikely to happen, then I may well decide as and when to buy a new Alfa, or maybe a Maser? Never underestimate the purchasing capabilities of us retirees. We may not be tacking it on to the company accountants sorties anymore, but we do have the private readies available when we decide to spend.

Listen Matey, our partnership has been ongoing in a goodly fashion, starting from her graduation from London University, and then proceeding onto higher vocations when she qualified CIPD.

I've mantained my equally illustrious status in the household, as a useful handy man, in all aspects requiring lifes skills. So, we always agree, I decide on what to buy, and what not to buy, and she just signs the cheques. Get some in, or jump in the bin!
