Re: What happened there? (Downtime)

I logged on a couple of times, earlier today, and it took about 30 secs for the site to appear. Firefox status bar reported "Waiting for Alfaowner.com".

This was around 15:00 hrs.

Whilst it was trying to load the page I opened another tab and did a random google search which reacted instantly.

Re: What happened there? (Downtime)

Oops, forgot to do my update cos I couldn't access the site at 4:39pm (UK time) - as soon as I could get back on about two minutes later there were

So, I don't really know how useful those figures are to you because before whenever I was having problems there were around 400 online

On the whole it seems to have been loading generally well - neither lightening fast, but then neither a pain in the jacksy

I'm assuming admin can see the exact timestamps on all these posts of mine btw?

So now, if you don't mind, I am going to switch the PD autoupdate system off All looks rosy in the AO garden to me and you've found the cause of your problem.... c'mon, my hard work and dedication deserves a Beanie, a Fleece AND a free membership.

Possibly also a free cam belt change from a Prague service centre?

Yup. and I jsut had a big outage roundabout then which was very annoying cos I was on a RANT

I think the server recognises angst

Re: What happened there? (Downtime)

I got excited and then let down at the end of the page... We will soldier on still, we are logging slow queries, hopefully this will help.

Thanks for your feedback!

I thoight you had it cracked also

One other thought I had, what about adding a new 'new posts' that will only search say last 5 or 10 minutes? That should reduce the demand on the server from the F5 crew as I like to call them - yes, I do have my tongue in cheek there

Well I thought 1 hour but you could be right with last 15 mins, also I guess that many members don't realise or use the "hide certain forums from search results" the settings can be found in their profile area under Edit Options (Very bottom of page):
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/profi...do=editoptions

If you get annoyed with off topic threads in your searches, you need to use this feature.

I think the majority of users get annoyed with the ON topic results

Incidentally, after I chopped out all the passion wagon Alfa sections in my profile it does seem to be running a lot faster. I only left in the forums that PG posts in and it seems to work a treat, it's a helluva lot faster. Some might call this stalking however LOL

Re: What happened there? (Downtime)

As said earlier, off peak is normally faster, as there is less demand on servers... but deleting Dermo's account might help
