Insurance really that high!

While it is true to say i have not been in the insurance market for a while, my company has insured my car for the last three years ,I was shocked at the prices coming back from money supermarket .In short I am 29 years old have not claimed on my company insurance in the last 3 years or in fact ever .I live in Kilburn NW London by no means a ghetto .I have no points on my licence good law abiding citizen .I placed in the site a 1-2 year old 159 Diesel and a Mni Cooper .

The Vehicle would be parked on the street but i can't think that anything else would cause the quotes to be so high? Am i doing something wrong?

Re: Insurance really that high!

Has to be the kerbside parking that's regarded as a big risk factor now with most insurers.:

Re: Insurance really that high!

Can't really change that in a hurry Flat will be a year old in January,

not really in the market for a new place. So my age and careful driving count for nothing better off being 17 and having a garage?

Put your mum on as a named driver

My old dear is never going to be allowed to drive my GTA but she gets my premium down about £80.

Re: Insurance really that high!

I think some were not as honest as you, and either stated a locked garage was in use, or it was off-road parked when it wasn't?: Yes I guess the insurers could of found this out if the motor had of been stolen from a virtual garage, but some were risking it? A bit like those whacking great mortgage issues, Lie to Buy? False earnings declared and so on? The squeeze will only get tighter, as the money supply starts to to dry up?:

They are getting wise to all of the 'wrinkles' GTA Jim? So beware of your answers, like never before? Is your Mother a main user Sir?:

Re: Insurance really that high!

Agree with ZF, dont lie! My mum wont be driving mine but its not like I'm telling them its in a garage when it isnt (mine is though)

I am the main user, policy holder and car is registered in my name so I am legit! Fact!

Re: Insurance really that high!

I'm 29, female (that's supposed to help ), car parked in a garage whenever it's not being used, no claims/speeding tickets, my diesel 159 still costs £600 a year to insure (I did it yesterday)

It's ridiculous - and that's a renewal quote with Elephant (with a £54 discount b/c I complained about the price). I got a couple of quotes for £1500. No wonder there are uninsured drivers on the road

Re: Insurance really that high!

I pay £360 for the spider including Protected NCB - although age is greater with full NCB.

I am with direct line - swiftcover may also be worth a try.

Ha ha ha! :looser: :duh: It should be double that with you being female! :coat:

Before I declaired my induction kit on mine it was 720 so I would have thought that yours would be alot less than that! Did you try Privilege? Thats who I'm with!

Re: Insurance really that high!

Previous was £360, fully comp, latest £260, and always give them the full details of where it's parked in the main. Down a drive, rear hardstanding,2 Metre gated and fenced, then into a locked and alarmed garage, so I guess the penny has dropped with some insurers? In fact we have been inundated with companies after our business, who categorically state, special rates for the over fifties.:

It may be a fact that some would like us 'Old Foggies' off the road, but the insurance companies recognise we are in the main a reasonable risk? Luvvin' It!!! Smarmy old Git that I am.

Bl***y Hell! They get cheaper and cheaper? Just hope these companies are sounder than that Paramount lot we were with a few years ago? Went 'Pop' so claims were not fully met, the stinkers!:

1 year - thanks to hubby driving over a dry-stone wall that had collapsed into the road, and the sub-frame needing to be replaced. That man needs glasses

Re: Insurance really that high!

So back on thread Really company has been doing me no favours in the long term insuring me as i am building up my own no claims bonus .Perhaps i should have just bought another car insured not used it ? .I don't want to go down the route of being anything but honest wth the isurance company ! This look like anoother way the company will keep me on their company car list with insurance.

I know how you feel about losing the NCB.

I had over 20 years NCB when I went overseas in 1993 and returned here in 2004. Whilst overseas was driving both private and company cars and had all the certs to prove that I hadn't claimed. However only one company would recognize these and started me off with 4 years NCB. Better than nowt but still a bit annoying.
